Upon arrival, the staff was quite rude. When I mentioned that we had booked the lodge (budget room) the staff member stated that they “took those bookings’.
The room was very basic, and was way over-priced. The communal bathroom facilities were clean and maintained well (I give 2 stars for the bathroom!). The shared kitchen was poor and had a toaster that didn’t work. The oven didn’t work except for the grill and the trays were covered in grease.
There was no WIFI at the lodge. After a night of mild steady rain we were told the road would be closed 30 mins after an email was sent at 8.20 am informing guests that the floodwaters were over. We were told that we should stay and book another night’s accommodation by reception. After visiting the floodwaters ourselves, we saw that a bus was bogged over the road making it impossible to cross, not the 400mms of floodwaters. The staff had told us that water was at a dangerously high level of 600mms. Staff were rude and told us that we would need to wait 12 hours after the rain stopped before we could leave.
After 2 hours we again returned to the floodwater and spoke to the park ranger who drove through the water. We decided to cross the 400mms of water in our 4WD. At no time were we in danger.
Staff did not inform guests of the situation honestly. Guests were not given adequate notice to leave earlier if they wanted to. I would not recommend staying at the lodge. There is no excuse for poor customer service.
