Paso del Norte Cultural Center (Centro Cultural Paso del Norte) is a hub for art, music and theater in Ciudad Juárez. Watch classical music performances, interpretations of famous ballets and original stage shows at one of the city’s finest cultural venues. At the Paso del Norte Cultural Center admire a spectacular glass mural by the acclaimed Mexican artist Patricia Baéz.
This large center features numerous performance rooms and exhibitions halls. The main auditorium is the Victor Hugo Rascón Banda Theater, which has a three-tier seating capacity of 1,750. There’s also the Octavio Trías Experimental Theater, allowing an audience of 300 people. In addition to the theaters, find rooms used for art exhibitions, a library, a restaurant and an outdoor performance space.
Visit the cultural center to enjoy its ever-changing program of theatrical presentations. Past events range from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker by the Russian State Ballet to We Will Rock You, Ben Elton’s homage to the British rock band Queen. Further examples include a celebration of the music of Michael Jackson and the Argentine band Soda Stereo. Attend talks by literature writers and recitals by classical music orchestras.
Take a moment to appreciate the mural by Patricia Báez in the center’s atrium. She took inspiration from significant aspects of the city’s life. One is the international border that it shares with the U.S. city of El Paso. Another is the role played by the sun and desert in nurturing the local community.
The venue is located in the neighborhood of La Plata in Ciudad Juárez. It’s about a 15-minute drive east of the city’s historic center. There is a large car park adjacent to the building. Visit the nearby attraction of the Ciudad Juárez Art Museum. Its rotating exhibitions feature both national and international artists.
Paso del Norte Cultural Center is open daily. Ask at the reception area for a current schedule.
