“A Slow Season at Thon”
The Thon Arena is very convenient to our up-coming Fall 2010 symposium - its separaated by only a walking bridge - Two of us stayed a couple extra days to meet with some business contacts and found the hotel virtually empty in this february trip - As a result w were inconvenieced by the Dining roomm barm and night club closed - and this was imporatnt since the town of Lillestrom has little entertainment and limited dining - and what exists was expensive to the American tourist due to a poor exchange rate and the results of a socialist economy. We were really freaked when the hotel cleaned its marble floors and prevented egress to the only area to the beverage area. On the positive side, the hotel has good and modern rooms and baths - with heated floors (we needed tham in the coldesst stretch of cold weather in forty years) - the staff is very friendly and helpful and the lobby areas provide coffee and tea. The Thon is only 300 yards from the rail station, but hard to access thru 3 inches of snow - the Fall should be better.
