The new owners are working hard to refresh this historic property. The seaside location is a gem and the staff members are friendly and attentive (special shout-out to Julia). The full breakfast is a wonderful benefit, and my mahi-mahi dinner was absolutely delicious! An added bonus is the proximity to another excellent restaurant, as well as a scuba center for those who come to Statia to dive. Thanks to Peter and Jeanette and your amazing staff!

This place has potential, but has seen better days. In desperate need of an update. We were given the keys to our room and that was the last time we saw any staff at the hotel. The mosquitos in the room were terrible, the pool looked tired and the rooster woke you up at all hours of the night. The restaurant staff were very nice.

Loved this place, super charming, tons of colonial feeling. Peter, the owner was such a great host. The restaurant was super chill and the food was incredible. We talked to the super tall dutch chef, nice guy. Only problem is the place is getting run down and theres road construction on going.

I like that I was able to get a decent breakfast. The room was untidy. We told front desk about it & they did nothing. The toilet was messy. Dirty floors. The towels were smelly. Dead insects on floor. We were not very comfortable with the mess. The hotel also needs some maintenance work. Pool can not be used. It's unkept. Sofa chairs by beach were a mess. We were just happy we had working AC, wifi & Breakfast at mornings. Everything else was trash! We won't be returning.

Our stay 30 june to 2nd July 2023 was in general enjoyable. The room was big, and clean, all the facilities and services worked, but the overall impression is that the Old Gin House needs a refurbish, and the photos we found before our stay were either out of date, or modified to look better that the place really was. The pool area was especially dirty and decrepit. The staff were nice, but not very welcoming, lucklily the area around the hotel, and above all the barrel house, restaurant was very nice. I woud not return there unless some work is done.

The moment we entered the property it was exactly what we wanted for a small island. Close to lots of historic buildings and still near the water with a fantastic restaurant. Pool was very enjoyable. Will stay at The Gin House if we return to Statia.

Saybolt and Merlies are an extremely attentive in all the senses possible. Whatever you may ask they going to make it possible even in this C-19 situation. Rooms are right next to the sea. Food is above the standards with some dishes really amazing. If you want to recharge your batteries give a chance to this place, it is a must

Staff was excellent, food was good but the restaurant was not open for all meal times. Not a huge deal since the are a couple close restaurants.

Great for relaxation and architecture nerds
As an architecture nerd, I loved the history, design, and stonework at The Old Gin House. We booked room 301, which was a lovely suite, with a balcony overlooking the water. Between the balcony and the flower adorned pool area, there were plenty of chances to sit back and relax. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was ample.

In need of restoration
This Hotel has so much potential. It is comprised mostly of dorm style rooms around a historic gin mill which has been converted to the hotel's reception and a bar area which was not in use during our stay. The pool was in terrible shape and I didn't bother. The furniture is really tired and in some cases battered. Lets just say that the entire place is due for a renovation and the historical gin mill should be restored.

Would Not Recommend
This Hotel was not what they represented it to be. It was old and not in very good repair. It is not in a accessible area. You must have a reservation made before 3pm to dine in an area that has no other options for eating. I was extremely disappointed in this hotel for the price and would not recommend to anyone.

Nice, somewhat isolated hotel.
The room was very pleasant. Sparsely furnished, as I like it, and spacious. You can get to the main part of town by following a steep path up a cliff. The food served across the road is mediocre, and at $27 for a bad dish of pasta, I don't want to do it again. Dining and sundowning is done on a pleasant patio with a great view of the setting sun across the bay. I would certainly want other easily reached dining options and access to the tourist options like museums and the fort.

This hotel is a hidden gem
This hotel is a must visit. The hotel itself is located on the small island of Statia and sits right on the water. The staff is amazing, but the hotel bar is a historical masterpiece. The food was great and the atmosphere is world class. This hotel far exceeded my expectations and I am so very happy that I happened to come across it. If you ever find yourself in Statia, then this is the hotel that you will want to stay at. Also, this Hotel has incredible taste in music.

there was a tropical storm coming thru during our stay so many restaurants and such around the island would be shut, they took such great care of us at the Tom Beach, the manager stayed on the premises during the storm, lots of provisions and snacks were available to help us ride out the storm. they were just wonderful and the beach at st. jean is, I think, one of the nicest on the island. everyone was so friendly and helpful - when the sun finally came back out we enjoyed it all the more!

Be prepared.
Mosquitoes. Mosquitoes. Mosquitoes!!! They were everywhere. In the room, poolside, and the restaurant. They room even came with a spray to prepare you for the torture. But I'm assuming it's like that anywhere else on the island.
