We really enjoyed our stay here. Our double rooms were very spacious and clean. The breakfast was really good, authentic Arab breakfast. The staff here are absolutely the best especially Mishleen. They suggested many places to visit and they provided us with a free map of the old city which was pretty useful. The hostel is made up of a huge old house which is beautifully decorated. Setting outside in the morning was very peaceful. I highly recommend this place if you want to stay in the old city and be immersed in the culture.

Falling a little short for an Abraham Hostel!
Rooms were smoke-free, but other guest sat in the court yard smoking late into the night just outside of the main guest room making a lot of noise and a lot of Smoke drifted into the room. $7 to wash and dry a load of clothes at a hostel. Very limited knowledge about tour information. Rooms smelled a little like mold. Hostel was part of the Abraham group of hostels, but knowledge of other member hostels was very limited and some wrong information was given out.

Nice place with charm
The hostel is housed in a historical building with a lot of charms. Sitting in the common area during the blazingly hot afternoon will give you some room to breath. The free cultural tour offered by them offers some insider information that you wouldn’t find out by yourself. Room is with ac but works out fine at night. Bed is comfy.

Charming place
Stayed in the dorms, very comfortable! Excellent WC/Shower. Excellent breakfast! Excellent wifi. They even remembered my name! And staff handled another guests emergency situation very well! They loose some marks for allowing smoking in the courtyard :-( and changing the time of the tour I pre-booked weeks earlier without alerting me. Just 15 minutes. But I was 5 minutes late instead of 10 minutes early. No real harm done.

The hostel is in an 19th century Islamic-style mansion so is attractive in that regard. Excellent location, right in the heart of the Old City, on a quiet, narrow, car-free street. But there are a few things I didn't like about this hostel. The Lonely Planet guidebook says "anyone with a stamp from Lebanon, Iraqi Kurdistan or Iran in their passport gets the first night in a dorm for free". I was in Lebanon before I came to Israel so I pointed this out when I checked in but the guy on the reception did his best to not let me have it. First he said "it must have been on this same trip". It was. So he said "you only get a free night if you book on our (Fauzi Azar's) website." I tried booking on their website twice but the screen just froze and the booking wouldn't go through so I booked with Wotif. They weren't going to give me this free night so I complained and fortunately the nice female manager let me have it but charged me for my first breakfast, which is supposed to be included in the price. Oh well, that's better than nothing I suppose. Some other negatives:- 1. Painfully uncomfortable mattress on my bed, 2. Tiny toilet & shower cubicles, 3. Very little atmosphere but that's no fault of the hostel. I only met one friendly traveller there, most other people spent most of their time in silence, staring at their smart phones. 4. The dorms open onto common rooms so you can easily hear people talking outside (when they actually do talk). 5. Loud dog nearby barking till 11pm.

Inconvenient and lack of maintenance
I didn't really enjoy my stay and endup left the hostel 1 day earlier. The hostel facilities are old and lack of amenities. The bathroom door cannot be locked. The toilet is very small, I barely can move inside. In terms of location, this hostel located in the middle of the hill. You need to walked up a lots of stairs to get to the hostel.

Richard

Noisy and dilapidated: The inn is an old building centered around a courtyard, where children play noisily from early morning into the night. This may be suitable for families with young children but otherwise interferes with sleep and a restful stay. The rooms themselves do not appear to have been renovated for some decades. The rooms are big and high-cielinged, but the poor maintenance is visible throughout. In the courtyard there are stacks of chairs piled up and a sense of disarray prevails. The breakfast buffet was so unappetizingly arranged that that we retreated outside to eat one of the many nearby inexpensive Arab restaurants. The service itself was functional but not warm enough to counter the noisy and disarray of the inn. Final warning: the entrance door to the inn is very low, and you need to stoop down to enter without banging your head. Despite the warning sign you may often hit your head on the metal top of the door as it too low even for a short person to walk through.

Good stay
A wonderful stay. However I was told that Nazareth was “ occupied “ by the manager, while I thought that it was part of Israel and its residents Israeli citizens. That information bothered me as I am a believer in Israel and support its cultural mosaic. Considering that a Israeli company owns it I found it odd as a statement from the manager. I had to explain this to my children.

Great stay in great location.
I don’t often stay in hostels, but this was a very pleasant experience. We did have our own room and it was huge with all the modern requirements, including en suite. The location of the hostel is great. Right next to decent restaurants and very close to the market and the annunciation church.

Knowledgeable manager, cancelled tours
The old house has a lot of character. The manager is very knowledgeable and helpful. Some of the other staff is less knowledgeable about the area and the tours and events. Some of the city tours were cancelled without informing the travelers. We had to change our plan due to that.

Beautiful hostel and lovely staff
The staff were very friendly and welcoming and gave us a lot of information about what there is to do in Nazareth. The hostel is in a 200 year old building which still feels like someone's home. It has kept its character and was just a joy to stay in, with nooks and crannies to find a place to quietly read a book but also an open reception area and separate kitchen area which is great for meeting up with other guests It is a very special place.

Beautiful hostel in a questionable area
The Inn itself was architecturally beautiful--one of the most fascinating hostels I have ever stayed in from that perspective. HOWEVER--the drawbacks overshadowed the positives. One drawback was that Google Maps took me on a wild ride while I was driving, taking me down an alley that only 'donkeys and camels were meant to go through' (as a local person told me--they also said it happens to a lot of tourists). This added an extra hour to get somewhat close to the hostel. The person from the Inn with whom I spoke about parking was not able to clearly communicate with me (due to language issues) about where to park (and parking is a nightmare in Nazareth--so please consider public transportation). Here is the most important thing to consider (from my perspective): When I finally found parking, I still had a 10-minute walk through a deserted marketplace through corridors that were empty (they closed this market area years ago). Even though I did this around 4 pm (16:00), I still felt very (!!!) unsafe and the route was not clearly marked--and once again, Google maps was not helping me. If you take a bus to Nazareth, you also will have to walk through this area (and it also means an uphill walk). I would not recommend it for solo travelers. I do not know how many tourists have trouble when they walk through there (I do not care to find that out). If this hostel was close to a busy street, I would definitely return. But I will not for the aforementioned reasons. It is too bad...

Great location, delicious breakfast, cake all day
Our stay in Fauzi Azar Inn was wonderful! From the greeter when we first walked in to get our key to our private room, until the good bye of the greeter when we walked out. The room was really clean with character since the guest house is really old, yet well maintained. Our room had a private bathroom which had clean towels and soap. Some friends stayed in the shared rooms, so I was able to check it out, and in my opinion they looked very clean as well. I used the shared bathrooms once I checked out, and they were also in very good conditions and clean overall. The views of the city of Nazareth from the Inn's top floors were spectacular, and the location was very central to walk to all of the local shops and restaurant. It also included a local tour which was non political or religious, which I really really enjoyed. To top it off, Fauzi Azar Inn baked cake all day for the guest which tasted delicious.

a lot of character to this hotel
We arrived in afternoon, a little difficult to find but needed to park in lot at edge of old city and walk uphill following good signs. Inside, we found open courtyard and helpful staff. They showed movies outside in evening, just a pleasant time. The room had arched ceiling showing old character of the building.

The best of the old city of Nazareth
The first guest house to be established in the old city of Nazareth, the Fauzi Azar boasts 1) a helpful staff of many/mostly volunteers 2) a stunning inner courtyard, with plants potted and hanging, and fountains 3) charming, clean, simple rooms 4) a wealth of information about the Jesus trail 5) a useful and homey kitchen, with tea, coffee and cakes always available

Fauzi Azar, Nazareth, Israel April 2015
Fauzi Azar provides you with an authentic & unique Nazareth experience. This is my second stay at Fauzi Azar. Very comfortable lodging. Spacious rooms, private or hostel. Exceptionally clean. Interesting location within the Old City of Nazareth. The building is an ancient multi-story authentic architecture of the post-Herod period, artfully restored. Private rooms are simple but very comfortable: immaculate room, good mattress with sparkling white linen; , air condition/heat, ensuite modern bathroom w/ hot water. Crew is especially pleasant and hospitable. Always delicious pastry available at the Reception, gratuite, for the guests. A large variety of reasonably priced Tours to select from. The hostel portion hosts a variety of very, very interesting travelers of all ages from the world over. Everyone mingles and there is a wonderful exchange of experiences and "to do" in Israel. I strongly recommend Fauzi Azar, private room or the hostel lodging. I've stayed in both and was very happy.

Good for backpackers
Aside from the fact that it is very hard to find in the old nazareth, it is not recommended for family with 2 children and 4 luggages. The way to the Inn from the taxi drop off could be a pain. Their facilities is ok but not what I expected. This Inn is good for backpackers. Staff at the check in was nice and helpful though.

Comfortable stay in good location
Big clean room with a high ceiling but a very cramped bathroom to share between 4 people. Lovely staff - one of the staff stayed up till 11pm for us to check us in. We loved the free cakes policy. Word of advice, if you are driving here, put in a car park on 6089 St rather than the actual hotel. Otherwise, your GPS may take you to the back suburban streets which are not easy to navigate due to the narrow roads.

Charming
It is a lovely old mansion owned by a Palestinian Arab Christian family (we didn't even know that category existed until we arrived!). Make sure you do the city tour which takes you to all the places you would NOT normally go - into shops to talk with the owners, listening to the hotel owner about their family, etc)
