“great service”
I arrived about 2 hours before check-in time and they let me check in. I requested a non-smoking room. At first the receptionist said there were none available for my first night. Then she decided to upgrade me to a larger room that was non-smoking for my two night stay. I really appreciated her help. I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Nikko Nara. The hotel is really conveniently located by a train station which is a plus.
“An upscale hotel reasonably priced”
Very clean and comfortable. Located at the train station, which is good because a taxi is always waiting and several of the most important Buddhist Temples and Shino Shrines are a $10 taxi ride away (or a half-an-hour walk). However, if you want Japanese culture, this is a very American style hotel (nothing wrong with that). Good restaurants nearby. Recommend it.
“Nara excellent location excellent service”
This hotel is very conviently located right next to Nara JR railway station. you can walk from the station to the hotel without crossing a road and completely undercover. At the bus station on the opposite side of the station is the rapid airport limousine bus to Kansai Intl airport or to the domestic airport terminal. It takes approx 30 minutes to walk to Nara park area through pleasant streets lined with shops.
“Room wonderful, breakfast the opposite”
I chose the hotel for the location (excellent - attached to the main JR station) and their promise of a western breakfase (which was very disappointing). The staff were typically excellent as is to be expected in a good Japanese hotel. The room was very spacious for Japan and was comparable to North American facilities. I was given a room with two double beds in return for my single reservation. It was very suitable for a week long business trip. The price I received via Expedia was exceptional compared with the value. I paid less for a better toom than colleagues who stayed at another hotel at a rate that was supposed to be a bargain as arranged by our local hosts. Breakfast was not included in the rate. I was glad that I had not paid for breakfast. I tried it the first morning and avoided it the rest of the stay. Their "western" breakfast elements were very disappointing. When I asked for crisp bacon, I got the same limp bacon that was out on the buffet, except it looked like it had been placed on a dirty grill. The pancakes were tough and dry. Eating breakfast at McDonalds was much tastier the rest of the week and provided as much variety of western food.

At subway station, clean hotel, 20 mins walk to temples, service not much used, public bath limited, several restaurants overpriced, in total room too expensive for hotel
