Take advantage of the well-maintained paths and observation decks that provide easy access to viewingthese spectacular falls that have one of the highest vertical drops in New England.

Witness the power of nature at Moxie Falls in West Forks, Maine. The vertical drop waterfall, which tumbles into a pool below, is one of the highest cascades in New England. Although its 90-foot (27.4-meter) drop is nothing short of awe-inspiring, Moxie Falls one of Maine’s most accessible waterfalls. Access it by taking a short and fairly easy hike through the woods.

Find the trailhead by the large parking lot off Moxie Pond Road. Stroll along the wide, flat path for about a mile (1.6 kilometers) until you reach the falls. Pass a variety of deciduous trees, cedars, rocky outcroppings, streams and more as you travel along. As you approach the falls, the trail gets a bit more rugged.

When you reach the falls, step onto the wooden observation decks located along Moxie Stream. From there, enjoy optimal views of Moxie Falls dramatically plunging down.

Moxie Stream has lots of small swimming holes. Go for a refreshing swim in summer months, but take care, as there is no lifeguard on duty. Bring your fishing rod and see if you can catch a trout lurking in the steam’s shadows. Moxie Stream eventually flows into the larger Kennebec River Gorge.

The Forks, the community surrounding Moxie Falls, is paradise for those who love the outdoors. In snowy months, explore over 100 miles (160 kilometers) of snowmobile trails that intersect across the region. The Dead River and Kennebec River meet in The Forks, making it an ideal jumping-off point to go whitewater rafting or kayaking on their impressive rapids. Trust an experienced guide to lead you through outdoor activities ranging from mountain biking to rock climbing to snowshoeing.

Visit Moxie Falls throughout the year. Its crashing falls and relaxing hike make for a perfect outdoor activity in any season.
