It was quite ok n clean n less expensive. The mattress needs to be changed as I couldn't sleep the whole night. May some water bottles in the fridge would have been nice.

terribly stinky room full of pets hair
Pet hair was everywhere on the bedding. The stench in the room was unbearable. Did someone die in there and was only found 4 weeks later? Or is this room a cigar club on other days? I can't describe it. But it was terrible. Everything is loose, worn out, ramshackle.

Although we were not aware of an odour when you checked in to the room we did notice afterward that there is a oily odour in the room which we are addressing. All our rooms are non-smoking so it could all be a related issue. Had you spoke to me while you were here we may have had an option available to offer. Hope the rest of your trip was otherwise enjoyable.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. As I told you privately, your complaint about the sheets resulted in new sheets being put on the bed with you present. As for scary, we are in a rural area along a major highway with a very good camera system to help keep watch. With the technology available to travellers now, there is really no excuse for not knowing where you are going. You would have been better served at an in town property.

Our room itself was clean and updated nicely, but the towels were mismatched, old and ragged. One even had tar or something caked into it, but you the TV/satellite was new, as was the bedding and flooring. The outside needs tome TLC & clean up, and there were regular tenants in several rooms that had large dogs roaming around, so it was a bit nerve-wracking for someone who is afraid of dogs. Owner was SUPER friendly and helpful though.

Good basic motel
This is a basic motel on the way north. We stayed two nights and the bed was very comfortable. The room had basic amenities which included a fridge and microwave. It was clean and functional. For a place directly on a highway (regional highway), it was quite quiet. The owners care about their establishment and their guests. We would recommend this place.

There was a separate entrance in the room and parking was in front of the room which was great. Availability of 2 queen beds was nice but the mattresses were sounding cho cho cho. Cleaning was unsatisfactory. And there was shortage of staff. Microwave, small fridge and tv was there in the room.

Overall it was an average experience. It seems like they do not have a spare mattress sheet with them because the one that I slept on was totally dusty and they did nothing on it. But still nothing can expect from such a rural area.

Although we were aware of the comment about a "Dusty" sheet the room was made up with linens directly out if the dryer and we did not see an issue but changed it anyway as requested. Rural vs. urban really has no bearing unless the neighbouring farmer is plowing bare fields and the windows are open but neither was the case. a you are aware, you arrived three hours early for check in and we accommodated you as fast as possible. It seems like there are no points for going the extra mile either. Thank you for staying with us anyway.

Room was clean, bed was comfortable, air conditioner worked good a little noisy but never kept me awake. No towels in bathroom and bath mat had brown stains on it. Water pressure in shower was amazing. Bathroom needs to be updated a vanity to lay your things on, it only had a basin sink. Nothing in bathroom to put towel on had to put everything on floor.

At first we got to the motel walked through a foot of snow to get to the office to check in. Got to the room found the bedspreads stained and the poor condition of the paint in the whole room. There were 2 ardox nails to hang our coats. The grouting in the tile was deplorable. The toilet paper was a piece of wire bent to hold the roll and hung on another ardox nail.

As always, I would like to tnank you for staying with us and taking the time to write a review but I can't help but question your motivation. Before I address your comments allow me to remind you that you were travelling with a dog and in that were assigned a Pet Freindly Room. Your reservation that was made for Friday, you did not arrive until Sunday that with the allowed you to do without penalty or the charge of the cancellation fees. You also choose to do this directly presumably because the online booking agent would not allow you to do so. When you arrived you asked to see the room before checking in clearly not acknowledging that you had already been extended a courtesy or that you would be held responsible for the charges regardless of whether you "LIKED" the room or not. Additionally, the option for another room would not have been a problem provided you left your dog in the car. Had you tried that, I would have reported you. Our Bedspeads are Duvet covers in a god awful Orange that shows every mark. Despite pet owners promising that their dog will not be on the bed, that rarely happens and for that reason alone, those rooms often have covers with marks and occasional claw tears. The grout comments were a bit surprising as that rooms has a new bathroom and in fact has no iossues. As for the toilet paper holder, the original holder had been pulled out of the wall and the hold patched. The temporary holder was a commercially available holder that is designed to hand on the toilet tank and not a bent wire Finally, as to the issue of the snow, at the time of your arrival, the snow was being cleared and you are fully aware of this but it isn't like we were still in the throws of a major winter storm. Despite all this, I hope that you will not allow your bad experience at our "Sub-Standard" Motel to affect your judgement of area and should you be inclined to stay again, I would be more than happy to connect you with other motels that may accommodate you without your dog.

While it seems to be resolved, it reappears from time to time. We are aware of the issue with staining of our Duvet covers and those are being actively replaced.

Old Motels needs renovating!
The owner of this motel is very courteous and accommodating but that only goes so far. Being completely honest the place needs a good thorough cleaning and some renovations. An older place such as this needs to be clean that's priority number one. Guests can overlook old decor etc. But the room needs to be clean. Our room was not. Plus there were cigarette butts just outside our room door. The screen door has about a 4 cm gap at the bottom to allow vermin to crawl into your room. Broken fan in the bathroom and cable TV cord through the window. There's no excuse for these things. There all fixable at a nominal cost tobthe owner and it will make guests interested in returning. I for my part will nit return again.

This wasn’t the absolute worst motel I been too however it was far from being anything great. As soon as I opened my room door I was blasted with a heavy heavy scent of Lysol cleaner , I asked about it and to switch rooms and the girl told me: no they are all sprayed like that when they are cleaned, but there was hair all over the bathroom floor so it didn’t look like it was cleaned very well... There was no shelves in my room! I had to hang bags on nails and random hooks that were on the wall! The garbage/recycling, fridge and microwave were all in the closet area which is an odd place for it , I don’t want my clothing hung to smell like food and garbage. The bathroom also had no shelf or counter top space to put anything down , there is a rack placed very high up towards the ceiling which I had to stand on a stool to reach for the towels. My curtains fell down and I can see they didn’t use plugs for the screws in the dry wall so that’s why they fell so easily. Beds & pillows were not very comfortable. However the price was only 80$ and on a side note I had a person staying beside me with a pitbul who barley kept it on a leash and told me the dog was unpredictable with children so that was a bit scary! And to top it off I had a flat tire in the morning leaving (was probably something I ran over) but didn’t help my already troubled stay.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I did speak with you at check out and you had not indicated any issues although I see from this that you had spoken with Emily the night before. We use a heavily scented lavender Pine Sol cleaner in all rooms and while she is correct that they are all the same in that respect, not all of them will smell as strongly based on when they were most recently cleaned. The person with the dog is an issue that will be dealt with as a result of the complaint. The kitchenette space has been like that since we introduced the microwave and fridges to the room mostly out of convenience and lack of good space. As for the pillows and mattress, we have very few complaints in this area although preferences differ from guest to guest. I would appreciate knowing more about what the concern was as these mattresses were replaced just over a year ago and if it is a failure within the mattress, I can address it with the supplier. I am more than a bit confused with the comment about the curtain as it is neither are down or off the wall. Yes our towel racks are above the door and a stool is provided to assist guest in retrieving them. We have attempted to provide a uncluttered pleasant living space in our rooms we do not have a great deal of shelf space beyond the night tables and the desk that is provided along with the shelving under the TV. I have spoken with the cleaning staff regarding the hair issue and have left it to them to ensure the mops are not the problem.

Not a bad deal for the price but definitely nothing fancy. The room was pretty clean overall but the towel in the bathroom was stained. We also waited for 20 minutes to checkin because no one was in the office. Overall would recommend if you just need a place to stay for the night and nothing more.

Unfortunately they no longer do. We were gettting complaints about the heavy bleach smell. Just not a battle that can be won. Sorry about the wait, that was entirely my fault as I thought you were not arriving til 1am and took advantage of the lull that evening.

Pros: The hotel owner was extremely nice and accommodating. The king size bed was nice! I thought the mattress was comfy. Plus, convenient location for our particular trip. Cons: The cleanliness... The towels were stained and smelled.. The blanket was not the cleanest.. Hair on the floor.. Grime on the windowsill.. and the filter on the AC desperately needs cleaned. It made the room smell really funky. All in all though.. Decent price, and served it's purpose!

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Although it is hard to pinpoint which room you were in with an anonymous response, I will still go through to see where the problem may be and address it. As for the linens, we have gradually switched away from the whites in many rooms because we find that much more often now, people take no care with the linens and we throw them away at a rate that cannot continue without either increasing our overall rates or dramatically charging for damages which are often too hard to prove who did them. Not so much an excuse as a problem that has not found a adequate solution. Air filters in A/C's admittedly, I had not give much thought to although the units were all replaced last year. I have also mentioned the concerns to my housekeeper and she will also be looking into it.

No Frills but Comfortable and a Great Price
If you're looking for fancy lotions in the bath and a mint on your pillow, you're not going to find it here BUT the room was clean, the beds and pillows were more comfortable than the ones I've had in much more expensive hotels. The TV worked and offered lots of viewing choices and the WiFi worked as well as it seems to in any hotel. The staff were nice as were the other patrons. The motel itself reminds me of the kind of roadside motels we used to stay in when I was a kid - no phone (why would you need one when EVERYBODY has cell service these days), no pool (although they DO welcome pets) but if you're just looking for a place to sleep for the night and not a fancy spa, it does the job just fine. They do ask you to pay the bill on check-in, but it was preauthorized through the booking agency, and many hotels I've stayed at have the credit card company pre-authorize a reversible security deposit. Since I didn't plan to skip out on the bill, I didn't see that as an issue. The biggest advantage, the next most inexpensive hotel in the area as 2.5 times the price I paid and prices ranged up to 6x the price.

Thank you for staying with us and taking the time to comment. Up to this year, I rarely took anyone's credit card info but we have always charged when you check in. Now that we do online booking the frequency that people book and don't show has become enough of a problem to require a change in policy that if a guest is not checked in after 9pm, we complete the pre-authorization and attach the charges to the credit card as per our cancellation policy. It is disappointing that in the 20 years that I have been associated with this property (on and off) that in the last two, we are at risk of untenable losses from not going forward in this manner. There are not a great number of beds available in this area (Owen Sound to Orangeville) at last check it was about 67 and that is beds not rooms. People who book and don't show are not only a loss to us financially but we often find ourselves turning families away in desparate need of a room for someone who is not coming and has provided false or fraudlent information to the booking agent. It is pretty sad. I find it hard not to tell the family with children that they can have the empty room but, sold and empty is still sold. We spend a great deal of time trying to make a presentable clean and friendly place for a family to stay but we also know that occasionally, through oversight or exhaustion, we miss the mark. Best of intentions along with some of the unfortunate issues that guest bring along make it difficult where it doesn't need to be.

Sorry to hear that you were not happy but I am somewhat concerned that when you checked out and I asked you if everything was Ok, you said it was fine. that would have been a great opportunity to not only let me know you were not happy but to see if there was anything I could do for you. We are on well water here and the shower curtains dp stain from the higher mineral content. Despite that we change them out fairly often. I will have a look at that. Generally, we give a card at check in with Internet password and the tv code. Anything that you find during a stay anywhere especially if it is pest control related needs to be reported so we can address it. This is a rural property that, while a active pest control program is in place, has challenges that only get worse if not addressed as found. Hopefully, if you are travelling through this area again, you will give us another try but if not, happy travels just the same.

check in was cordial. room was dirty, old, run down. The bed skirts had not been washed in some time & were clearly soiled.

I always find it difficult to respond on a case by case report when they are filed anonymously. In this case however, I was expecting to see this so I know specifically what you are referring to. First off, we do not have bed skirts on any of our beds. The Duvet cover in that room however was not dirty but marked and I have already recommended the removal of the dreadful orange colour that we are using in favour of the dark blue that amongst other things is more friendly towards the lack of care from guests that has become a trend. Additionallly that room was fitted with a new King bed prior to your stay and was cleaned and inspected both by myself and the owners and found to be in good order. It had been renovated and painted within the last six months. This is a 40 plus year old motel. In that alone, it is old and dated without argument but we do our best to make the property warm and friendly to our guests. The frequency where guests assume that a motel doesn't wash their sheets is alarming not because of the truth of the matter but because of the way as it gets used to justify being refused a refund when they have signed a "No Refund" agreement. As recently as 2 years ago, I did not routinely see the disrespect that guests show to our property nor did I have to invest as much time and money into repairing unnecessary damages that were not passed on to the guest. In a perfect world, each guest would be going into a room built just for them although I am sure they would still not be happy. Sure this is not what you want to hear.
