I don't know where to begin... The worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I have travelled a lot, and in the last 3 months alone I have stayed in over 30 hotels. This takes the biscuit as the worst one by a million miles. The incompetence of the staff is astonishing, the lack of communication is laughable and the standard of the hotel just beggars belief. Our mattress was a dish sponge with a hole in the middle and a sheet on top and the rooms are tired. That said, we could just about overlook this if it wasn't for the following. The hotel had no hot water for 24 hours and the manger didn't think it his responsibility to contact a maintenance company or to update any guests throughout the situation. When we complained (15 hours into it), he assured me it was out of his hands. I was lied to by two members of staff, who both told me that it would be back on within the hour and a maintenance man was fixing it as we spoke. Picton itself is lovely and we put the hotel experience behind us and enjoyed our time there. I wasn't going to leave a review but upon check out and while on a ferry across to Wellington, my credit card was charged £161.87 (approx $350) without my knowledge, consent or any prior communication. Having contacted the hotel, they told me they had 'made a mistake and were struggling to refund it'. Too long didn't read version - DO NOT STAY HERE, STAY LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE!

We only stayed one night as we were getting on the ferry the following morning. It is very clean, just a little dated. Service was wonderful and it is a short walk to the ferry which was very nice

It was a bit run down. I also asked the desk personnel about a restaurant in the same block and they acted like they knew nothing about it. We went there, and it was amazing. They should know where the good places to eat are in the area.

The maintenance has not been kept eg ranch slider would not lock without force. The bathroom window had a broken hinge so it could not be shut. Curtains hanging not attaché d to the curtain rail. Scrapes on the room paint. We have been here many times.

The apartment was nice. Provided tea but no coffee. 1 of each little tube of shampoo and conditioner. Enough for one person instead of 2 people Went for dinner and was told waiting time of 30 minutes due to function in downstairs pub which if we had known we would have booked a table.

The staff were lovely. The property however wasn’t well maintained, I wouldn’t stay there for more than one night. No air conditioning, no towel racks or hooks for towels in the bathroom.
