I stay at the Cow Palace every year in November when I go hunting out that way. And my expectations, while never high, are generally met. Rooms are ok, staff is ok, things are clean, and things work. Not this time. The Wi-Fi wasn’t present in my room. No signal whatsoever. The refrigerator was not,nor would it get, cold. I stayed two nights and adjusted it both ways, so I’m pretty sure it was broke. The timer on the heat lamp wouldn’t shut off the light either. All this was pretty minor compared to the fact that the tub would not drain while you’re taking a shower. Take a 10 min shower and you got dirty water past your ankles. Kinda icky. Like I said before. Been staying there going on 12 years, but not any longer. There is hotel across the street with a nice green sign that looks nice

Air conditioner broke, pool not working breakfast was poor waitress not friendly when told she brought wrong food stated sorry but didn’t fix the meal coffee pot was filthy when commented on condition of pot was told I’ll let the kitchen know extremely dissatisfied with this trip

Pictures posted are deceiving. The place is falling apart. I walked in to register and the place was full of smoke. The desk attendant stated their vent in the kitchen decided to stop working. I was placed in the back outside far corner. Stairs up to 2nd floor are of direpair and could be a tripping hazard. 3/4 of the lights are not working. Upon entering the building in the morning for breakfast, I walked into the building from a different door. Doing this the carpet is old! Curled/dirty and unsafe for someone that is not steady on their feet. I noted there were large bowls throughout area on the floor. I am guessing it is to collect water dripping from roof. The place smells of mold. I was offered coffee from a coffee bar and the carafe looked as if it had not been washed in months. Gross!

The room had an odor. Perhaps there had been a water leak because it smelled musty. It would have been better to have not used that room. It seemed there were plenty of rooms available. Other than that it was very fine.

They are 3/4 of the way through a complete renovation. Bed was very nice, AC was weak, they are waiting to replace all the carpet as the last step of the renovation. It really needs it. Stayed there August 2018

I had stayed at this motel several years ago and had a good experience. This time.....not so much. I arrived a mere fifteen minutes before check out and was told I would have to wait, so I did. The person checking me in was not friendly, nor was she pleasant. She left before informing me that the rollaway bed I requested 3 weeks ago was not available, and passed me off to another employee because it was time for her to go. The next person to assist me was pleasant and respectful, and was able to confirm the rollaway was not available but he was not sure why. The television did not work properly so he had to eventually come to my room and at least get it to work somewhat, although the volume buttons did not work properly. The smoke detector was hanging from the ceiling and not operating. The doors from the outside to the pool were propped open from the time we arrived until the time we left so were not secure. The flies around the pool area were horrible. The staff (except for the first one) were all just young people trying to do their jobs, and I really appreciated that. The place is in disrepair so I'm gathering an owner or management issue. On a good note, the breakfast was very good. I am very disappointed, I reserved the room 2 months in advance, and would have cancelled had I known the rollaway was not available. I don't think I will ever stay here again.

You get what you pay for
I should have read the reviews before choosing this hotel but I didn't have a lot of money. I guess the saying you get what you pay for is true. There were stains on the carpet, the carpet had holes in it, the lampshade had holes in it, tiles were missing in the bathroom, and there were brown smudge stains in the bathroom. When I went to check in I didn't realize I was 7 minutes early due to the time change. The guy at the front desk asked me to leave and return in 10-15 minutes. What kind of service is that??? He could have at least offered to let me sit in the lobby but to ask me to leave all together? Next time I will pay the extra money to stay at the Holiday Inn.

I used to stay at the Cow Palace exclusively when in Lamar but it became so worn out and dirty I did not want to deal with it anymore and started staying other places. This time I had no alternative but to book the Cow Palace and, even though Rodeway Inn has taken over the property, they have made no changes to spiff up the place. Just take a look at the carpet throughout the building, check out the carpet in the rooms--filthy, falling away from the baseboards; stains on the bathroom door, etc. C'mon Choice Hotels---you can do better than this!!! The staff is lovely and very helpful; it must be difficult for them to try to sell the place when there have been no improvements for years.

It was the worst place we have ever stayed. It was filthy and said it was user construction, but construction would have been better than the way it is now. Our door would not lock and waited half hour and no one cou,d fix it they moved us to another room but no elavator and not offer to help us with the bags. Ice machine would not operating so they went somewhere else to get ice. The carpets were so dirty that you had to keep shoes on at all times. There were 2 toads under the ice machine that did not work. It was cheaper but there was no,way it was worth the money.

Check in staff was great.only resson i stayed.there was a homeless woman out side the main door.and a man parked in his truck sleeping in his truck with the doors open.didnt feel safe in the parking lots at all.ac didnt work carpets was filthy and staind.bed wad hard as a rock..but beeakfast was great, even tho our waitress spilled our juice all over the table,and even tho she said sorry..didnt clean it up.and we only haf the napkins our forks where wraped in.it was hard to get any sleep when you cant get comfortable or cool down when its 100 out side.and cant leave your door open becouse of all the weirdos wondering around outside that didnt even belong there..wasnt a happy camper

The shower was very low and I had to kneel to take a shower. The room was not cleaned. I went to close the curtains and it fell off. No internet, breakfast was a joke. AC yeah don’t get me started on that.

While the beds were clean there were several interesting and unfortunate details of the room. We had a 8 light fixture in the bathroom and only 4 worked. The door handle came off in my hand shutting the door. There was garbage on the floor. The air didn’t work. And there was two phones in the room that neither would work so we couldn’t even call the front office. The staff was very nice tho it’s not their fault. I suppose you get what you pay for.

The hotel was overall decent and the desk attendants were polite. The room we had reeked of cigarette smoke. It was even in the pillows and towels. We were not given the option of what kind of room we wanted either. Also the shower head in our room barely worked. It's an ok spot to sleep but not much else. I'd bring your own febreeze just in case.

Nice overnight stay
I had stayed here before. They have lowered their rates to a reasonable level. Restaurant not open for breakfast, but biscuits and gravy on the free continental breakfast was good. The room was clean, bed comfortable. Wifi was a little weak, but usable. My only complaint would be that the tissue box in the bathroom was empty, and so was the soap dispenser for the shower. Overall though, it was a good place to stay.

OK Hotel - Superior Staff
Hotel is an older hotel in the process of undergoing some renovation. Rooms are large. Interior rooms have the advantage of being steps from the clean indoor pool and jacuzzi atrium area. Morning breakfast features both hot and cold items and filled me up. Had an issue with the AC/heat (neither worked) in both rooms we reserved and upon notifying front desk they promptly and courteously moved us to different rooms. The hotel does have a restaurant and bar (both are closed Sun & Mon) so we weren't able to take advantage of that feature. There are many restaurants within a couple minutes of the hotel,though. All-in-all not a 5-star, but not a 1-star either. I would stay there again.

It was not a plesent stay the staff was rude and it was very durty and the place is falling apart beds were not comfortable my son had a rollaway and the Springs pop through the mattress and I was being held together with a wire I will most likely never stay at the motel again

ALL AROUND DISASTER!!!
This place won’t be open much longer!Your staff is killing your business! Not one of the 6 or so we encountered was helpful,courteous, helpfulor informative.Room, Clementines areas were extremely dirty.No towels in room.Front desk guy lacked personality all together & wouldn’t even engage in a conversation.All he could give us for towlels was a pool towel.He didn’t have wash clothes or any other size!He was also working (if you want to call it that-he did multiple jobs and none even close to standard!The restaurant was the absolute worst!We waited 40 minutes to get one glass of water for the two of usOur peppered chicken was so salty we couldn’t eat it.No silverware & no one ever around to ask!Our salad was taken away when we weren’t even finished. The place was fairly busy & everyone was just as disgusted with all the same problems!When anyone wanted another drink they had to wait up at the bar!We couldn’t get a bill & they lost our order.Then the topper...we were on our way back to our room & one of the waitresses had been disappearing to the pool area to play with a baby. Need HELP!!

The rooms were dirty, the heater never shut off, the tv did not work and when we complained they did nothing. They also have bed bugs. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB

Common areas were nicely decorated for Christmas. Very inviting. Spacious room with good flat screen TV, fridge and microwave. Bathroom could use a little updating. The desk clerk who checked me in was not very welcoming. Kind of like I was taking up too much of his time. Our room only had one wash cloth and one tiny bar of soap for the two of us. When I asked for another soap and cloth, he rummaged around and found me soap but said there would be no more wash cloths until the maid came in the next morning. He didn’t seem overly concerned.

Think twice before booking Cow Palace
I'd like to start with a positive note. The staff I came in contact with during my recent stay were very friendly and helpful, so kudos to the staff. Outside of that, I'm very surprised this hotel is still open. It was by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. There has obviously been no up keep in many many years. It was filthy from corner to corner - rooms, lobby, bar everywhere the eye could see. The carpet was disgusting, the curtains had smashed insect remains, there were holes in lamp shades, the furniture was dented, scratched and tattered beyond what could be sold in a second hand store. I could go on and on, but I think you get the point. I spoke to multiple residents of Lamar and all agreed that it has an incredibly bad reputation. It's really to bad as it could be a wonderful community benefit. It could be a great place for weddings, class reunions, proms etc. Unfortunately, the owners have given up any sense of pride or care for their business or their community.

Checked in went to room and it was occupied. No other rooms available for the entire weekend and was turned away after refunding my money. Ended up staying in cockroach motel. So much for making 6 weeks in advance to assure a resveration. Back to Bestwestern I go.

Awful smells
My first room smelled of urine & had stains on floor & bed. I requested a change. It unfortunately was not any better. Musty smell, tree fresheners in the vents, broken tile in bathroom- not clean. Awful!!!
