How many upscale resort hotels have you visited where the gracious owner and his golden retrievers are perched at a corner table in the lobby? (Giving new meaning to “dog-friendly.”) Yeah - the Betsy is that unique. A funky layout - two adjoining buildings that are connected by an interior crossover walkway - took a tiny bit of getting used to (think your first day on a cruise ship…). We stayed four nights, and balky air conditioning made the first day/night a little distracting. But the responsiveness of hotel staff more than made up for it. The Betsy demonstrates that real customer service is something you *do* - not just promote. We’d go back in a heartbeat.

The outdoor patio seating area was lovely. Manager was amazing. Very friendly, always around for assistance. Rooms were very clean. Breakfast was great. Good way to start your day. VIP experience was supposed to include a bottle of wine upon arrival which is a lovely special touch but apparently the new owner decided not to honour this so that was a little disappointing. Just a small thing but sometimes the special touch is what brings you back.
