Hotel was conveniently situated for our stay in Devizes and very friendly and comfortable. Room was spacious and well presented. Some parking space available under cover which was good.

Satisfactory, but tired-looking and lacking in cus
The staff were very friendly and very helpful, so check-in was very straight-forward. The room was pleasant, although the fittings were a little tired and in need of repair/replacement. The bar and restaurant were fairly basic and there were virtually no other customers. We had intended eating in the restaurant however we did not want to be alone in there and so went elsewhere.
The hotel wasn't expensive and was clean. The carpets were a little threadbare. The breakfast was excellent.
Parking is easier across the road than in the hotel.
I only stayed the night and was perfect for me.
I didn't go to the bar which looked very nice.

A 3 day stay in Devizes.
We WILL be back. The Staff were lovely and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them - Thank You. The food & service was excellent. We stayed 3 days and the breakfast was consistently mouth-watering. We had an evening meal also and that was delicious. The Restaurant & Bar are warm and friendly but I felt that our room could do with a Spring clean. The hotel itself is a bit 'tired' and could do with a bit of TLC. We had a problem with noisy radiator pipes at night but the staff were only too happy to move us to another room. Location is great and only a short walk to Devizes Town centre. There is some off road parking, some parking on the road and a Pay & Display car park immediately across the road. Some rooms are a bit noisy due to traffic noise but ear plugs are provided.
For a 3 star hotel this was great. The receptionist couldnt have been more welcoming on our arrival, the room was LOVELY with exceptionally comfy bed. Bathroom a bit tired but ok for 3 star

Good size rooms, food was tasty, and staff seemed friendly and happy.
Issues with room, tears in curtains, tiles and towel rail peeling off in bathroom, made it seem scruffy. Windows are awful and in the room I was in you could hear everything outside
The property was in a very good position to get around breakfast was excellent, but our room was very tired and needed a refurb mould on the grout in bathroom toilet took ages to refill
My room was not accessible but was at the top of the stairs. The bed was dismal. The base was a divan that you could feel the center parts like a ridge through the awful matteress. No good to anyone with back problems like myself. Woke up half a dozen times with cramps and back spasms. Very bad for sockets to charge your phone. In the end my daughter helped me by pulling the bed out. Even then was difficult due to the head board not even being attached to the bed.
The dust on the fan thick. The bathroom just bad. I've got pictures I hope I can up load them. Rhis room should not have cost what it did. Overpriced no more than 39 per room.
The breakfast 4 or 5 options but only allowed 1 choice. I just ended up with Porridge. Very nice but you coukdnt have a cooked breakfast as well.

Friendly staff but the whole experience was rather ruined by the condition of the bathroom and its very mouldy and damp smell.
It stank of musty staleness. It was dirty. The carpets were threadbare and, in places, were ripped and torn. One wall in our room was wet with damp. The curtains were falling off the rails. The shower was dirty. If it hadn't been very late we'd have left immediately. I will NEVER go there again.
On the plus side: comfortable bed, nice breakfast, smiling (if apologetic)staff.
Great place to stay clean room nice bath!
Lovely breakfast
All round good although chap on reception was a little avrasive
Definitely gives bear a run for its money although staff there are better.
Friendly staff, very helpful in recommending local attractions. Good full breakfast with many choices. Excellent food for dinner.

Old town hotel. Charming.
I actually really liked the place, only problem was there was no hot water pressure for the shower. Also the hot water completely stopped working. I would turn the knob and nothing would come out. Luckily I had already taken a shower at that point.

Shabby, smelly room, TV didn't work, all in all a bit of a disgrace.

Satisfactory
The castle hotel was used purely for one night as my family and I attended a function. The twin room was small but comfortable. The bathroom window did not open so we found it very stuffy and hot! The cleansiness of the room was not satisfactory and could do with a deep cleaning ie the carpets, furniture and walls etc. There was litter left on the floor when we took over the room late Saturday evening along with a used empty condom packet! Away from that we had a really nice full breakfast which compliement the stay! The staff was accomodating and overall the stay was good. Cons hot water was too hot and burned us! Rooms and dinning area needed a deep clean etc. Window in the bathroom did not open which left the room too hot! Pro's ...slept well and full english breakfast along with the service was very good.
Very nice hotel very clean and tidy only thing I would say is it a building has to use second glazing make sure it actually shuts as the knocking of the window all night was very annoying. Bit noisy by the road but didn't bother me .Overall good hotel
Only in town for one night. food was excellent.however get there early if you need a parking space.

Excellent family room
The layout of the room was excellent for a family stay with an adjoining room that had a door that closed off and gave children and parents space from each other! Each room had its own tv and the rooms were lovely and warm. The bathroom had a big bath with oodles of hot water and plenty of towels were provided. The overall condition of the hotel was a little tired- the hotel had seen better days but they are doing well with what they have. The staff were very accomodating and the variety at breakfast was a pleasant surprise. It was good to be able to eat at the restaurant that evening too, saves having to find somewhere to eat when you are tired from travelling. As the hotel is situated on a corner street near a busy road by traffic lights you naturally expect traffic noise and noise from any pedestrians. It was a shame it was 3 am and the couple arguing felt they had to stand right underneath our window to scream at each other. The hotel happily provide earplugs in the bathroom. Next time I will use them.
Very helpful, pleasant staff, quick booking in, lovely clean spacious quiet room, good breakfast served in a beautiful relaxing part of the pub away from the bar.
Good stay, staff were very friendly and helpful. The room had everything you needed and plugs were in the right place! Someone had obviously stayed in plenty of hotels and picked out the best bits. Only problem was that the bar area was chilly so we had to go out to have a drink.

Although in need of some modernisation, the room was overall quite comfortable, if anything slightly too warm for me and it wasnt possible to turn the radiators down! Slightly concerned when I noticed the earplugs provided for the traffic noise, but to be fair I was so tired I didnt notice! The hotel does bounce a little when HGV's pass. Breakfast was fine although swamped in pepper which I wouldnt normally have on everything. Better to have the choice?

Great location in need of an update
Great location and very good breakfast, nice staff. Hotel look historic and impresive form outside. A handful of hotel parking spaces available, but expect to park on the road, which is free and plentiful with a bit of juggling. Room was a little "creaky" and could do with an upgrade , as could the hotels public rooms, all of which were obviously renovated in the 1970's (loosing much of its original internal historic character along the way) but not touched much since then. I have stayed there twice recently, so would stay again.
Warm and friendly staff. Rooms clean and comfortable.
We ate off the lunch menu, food was nice.
Devizes was a pleasant place, would recommend the black swan for food, a very nice pub that is like walking into an antiques shop.
Would definitely recommend the castle hotel.
We stayed as a family with two older children and all of us enjoyed it. The hotel was in a good location for exploring the surrounding area, and provided good value for money. The rooms were well appointed, and whilst the bathrooms were a little dated, everything was clean and it did not spoil our stay. Breakfast was good and it was a change to have the hot food freshly prepared rather than laid out as a buffet. With two older children we appreciated being able to book two twin rooms.

Great breakfast spoilt by noise from boy racers !
All parking taken , free public car park opposite but who wants to get up by 8 am on a weekend break . Twin room at front , heard ALL traffic noise , ear plugs were provided! Breakfast and service very good .
Stayed one night while walking Kennet & Avon canal
Good welcome. Pleased to discover Sky Sports in the bar showing 20-20 England-NZ cricket match.
Very good evening meal - especially the macaroni cheese, and my friend praised the mashed potato with his sausages. Breakfast didn't quite match that standard, but there was plenty of choice and service was friendly and efficient.
The room we were given was in the rear of the hotel, which is fortunate, because I think the traffic noise at the front would have been an issue. The staff were amazingly helpful in every way. We stayed for two nights and ate in the hotel both nights. The Friday night they had a special of two steaks and a bottle of wine for 30 pounds, it was great. The tariff included breakfast, which was seriously one of the best breakfasts I've had for ages. Cooked to order and whatever you wanted. Thoroughly recommend this place.

Small room, no cleaning , bathroom mirror over the toilet bowl very awkward to shave , shower cubical a weird shape , too much clutter for a small room , e.g t.v , kettle , coffee cup , tea coffee all on 1 small table . If you have a large s/case there are 2 sets of stairs to climb

Nice old hotel
This hotel is in an old building. The staff was very helpful and the cooked breakfast in the morning was very nice. Devizes is an interesting English town. Nice stay overall.
