The hotel was okay. The room was small but clean and there was hot water. The staff on the other hand was not pleasant. The receptionist guy at night was not friendly at all. He had a very serious looking face and did not say hello. The front gate was locked at night and when I came in all he said to me was what was my room number. No greetings at all. I will not stay there again.

The entire staff embrace the Senegalese spirit of Teranga. They greet you with smiles from the time you arrive until the moment you depart. The relatively small size of the hotel makes for an intimate experience. And breakfast on the rooftop terrace is a wonderful way to begin any day!

Charming Hotel, a bit out-of-the-way
The Djoloff is a unique hotel. It does not look like anything around it, which is both its plus and its minus. It has a completely open plan, so when moving between rooms, one is always outside, but protected. It also has a beautiful rooftop restaurant, and the staff is great. My French is limited, and their English was also, but we each tried and did fairly well. The menu is quite good, with most meals running around $15-20, although breakfast is nothing special. I booked a Superior room which was nicely appointed, with a very small balcony, but rather small. Just barely room for two people to co-exist in and around the bed. Hard for me to imagine more than one person staying in a standard room, which must be smaller. The negative is that it is not located near most areas of interest, so a taxi is required to go anywhere.

I would recommend this hotel as the room was comfortable and roof deck restaurant had great food. Wifi AC breakfast we’re excellent. Only drawback was unfriendly check in staff except for one young girl. Not a smile out of any of them. The location of the hotel I did not like. It is located in poor section not close to things!

Rooms are chic and modern and lovely. The jazz club in the basement was superb. And the restaurant was wonderful with delicious tapas. The downside is no pool. Hang out area is on the rooftop terrace, with only one couch otherwise restaurant tables

Good hotel, nice location
The hotel location is pretty ideal to get to see the city. It's right in the middle of the two parts of the city you will probably most frequent. The rooftop terrace is a really nice spot for a drink and dinner. We had some hot water issues that took some time to resolve but otherwise it was a good stay.

Comfortable and quiet from outside noise (though very loud when people were in hallway). Room was clean and small. Staff was nice enough but completely disengaged. Distracted on the phone, with friends or took a series of detailed questions to get one answer such as "how do we get on the list to see music Saturday night." On that note, do NOT miss hearing jazz there Saturday night if it overlaps with your stay and get on the guest list early for a ticket. Food at restaurant is fine, atmosphere is pleasant. Little English spoke, not different from most of Senegal, you can get by.

Bad customer experience for Business trip
I had a really bad experience at the Djoloff. I do not recommend it to anyone going to Dakar for Business. Basically, they destroyed one of my suit when washing it. They refused to repay it arguing that will send a new one. And of course, even 3 months later I am still waiting for an answer of them. The hotel is okay but the attitude of the people at the reception is kind of dishonest. J’ai eu une très mauvaise expérience au Djoloff. Je ne recommande pas cet hôtel à des personnes allant à Dakar pour le business. Ils ont détruit un de mes pantalons de travail en le lavant . Ils ont ensuite refusé de le rembourser. 3 mois après, j’attends toujours une réponse de leur part. L’hôtel est ok mais l’attitude de la réception et de la directrice assez malhonnête.

While the terrace is lovely, room 20 should absolutely not be rented out. There is a sewage problem in the shower drain and the room smells toxic. The staff clearly knew about it yet acted as if they did not. There was no apology, there was no discount. The curtains are also quite sheer and the hallway light kept turning on and off all night, which made it hard to sleep, on top of the general noise level of the hotel. While I might go to a concert there or eat on the terrace, I would never sleep there again.

Great atmospheric stay in Dakar
The hotel staff are reliable and courteous and booked my 4 am taxi departure and generally put up with my complete lack of French; anyone I talked to at reception had a good enough command of English to be able to help. The hotel itself is a work of art -- a joy to discover, go up and down the hallways and staircases, look inside and out at the flowers and paintings and architecture. I was not bothered by noise except for a few cats howling for long-lost companions past midnight. The surrounding area is not so great, giving this small and well-guarded hotel the feeling of a fortress. But, it is close to the beach. Huge jug of free water provided each day. A/C worked good. No mosquito net, but guess it wasn't needed, because I wasn't bitten. A tea and kettle maker would have been nice. Room was in good condition. Would stay again.

This hotel has a very nice view and is quite modern. The first day I was put in a room on the ground floor right by reception and was worried about the noise and a window that wouldn't lock. Also, it turned out the air conditioning didn't work! When I asked for a different room, they took some time, but eventually I got a room on the second floor with everything working. The breakfasts were unfortunately not included, but they were good!

Just what i needed
I have to confess that I only stayed one night, arriving at the hotel at about 10pm and being collected for a tour at 8.30am the next morning! Airport pick-up was arranged quickly and easily and it was such a relief when I arrived in Senegal feeling pretty exhausted. When we pulled up outside the hotel, I was relieved to see the flowers as it looked friendly and welcoming. Staff were friendly and wifi was good. Some road noise overnight though

Nice hotel in a quiet area
Nice hotel: nice courtyard, modern interiors, reliable wifi. It is not close to Downtown, so if you need to be in that area it may not be the best choice. However, it is in a quiet area, has a park nearby, and is a block away from the water. The beach is not really close, but it is within walking distance. Breakfast is way overpriced. If you just need a coffee and some pastry in the morning, a better choice may be to get them down the street. Having said that, there is something to be said about the convenience of having breakfast on the roof top terrace before you're fully awake. I was told, by a third party, that staying at the hotel allows you to use the pool @ Terrou-Bi, which is within walking distance. However, I can't confirm the information.

Nice staff, nice rooms
The room was clean, the staff were friendly, just great. Better value for money than a lot of the Western style hotels. Make sure you try the rooftop restaurant in the evening, its breezy and a welcome break from the heat! The only bad thing is a lot of the locals also come to the rooftop bar so can be busy and noisy till late if you are trying to get to sleep early.

Comfy boutique hotel
Dakar is a bustling, cosmopolitan city. This was a our first time there, and we were overwhelmed at times, which made it even more wonderful to retire at the end of the day to our wonderful hotel with its friendly staff, great food, and fantastic rooftop restaurant, where breakfast is included and you can order a full meal or tapas with your drinks as you take in the view of the ocean and fishing boats. It's in a nice neighborhood, too, away from the really ritzy, more touristy big hotels on the water.

Great stay, needs a tech revamp
In April, I flew out during Spring Break to surprise my best friend, I was so impressed by the reviews I decided to give Hotel Djoloff a try. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by a hotel matron who was so pleasant, and every matron, one named Sankan, thereafter was just as nice. There was construction happening but it didn't bother me at all. The hotel is absolutely beautiful---it didn't matter where my room was, the hotel itself is gorgeous, and the staff was so so so helpful. The most frustrating part that would have me hesitate booking here again---the internet connection was terrible, and there was no TV. There is nothing better than sitting in bed on vacation, with your feet up and a warm breeze with the TV ON----there were only 4 channels and all were fuzzy and or all in French. I also consistently had trouble connecting to the internet, and in this day and age internet connection is necessary, so not having a clear connection was pretty frustrating. Overall I enjoyed my stay, the hotel is beautiful, but I can only give 3 stars because of the hassle with the internet and the Television; once the technology here is upgraded, this will be a 5 star hotel.

This is my third stay at this hotel. The staff are very friendly, accommodating and will attempt to accommodate your needs. I had a room with a balcony and it was very comfortable and clean. The location is quiet and the rooftop restaurant/bar has beautiful views of the sea and great tapas. There is a nice gift shop in the hotel lobby with reasonable pricing.

Booked through Expedia- hassle-free. Check in and check out very fast; courteous staff. Small room, but nice and clean. Small TV set with CNN as only English language channel. No football channels! Nice view of Atlantic ocean from rooftop restaurant, but this is an open space and I wonder how they will manage when it rains. Food is delicious and service is pretty fast. Internet erratic but good connection in the lobby downstairs. There was renovation going on and noisy.

Djoloff was perfect what what I needed- conveniently located near my conference at the Radisson for a fraction of the price. The staff was so friendly and helpful and the rooftop restaurant was superb for dinner. Great to stay somewhere both comfortable and unique. The breakfast leaves something to be desired but the food is so good in Senegal it was actually good to not overeat in the morning. Also great location for wandering through the fish market and a crafts market and the quick access to the Corniche was good for outdoor morning runs !
