An escape to spiritual serenity in the mountains
We spent two relaxing nights in Baca Grande, a charming community nestled within Crestone. Our host, Merrin, was fantastic – always prompt and helpful with any questions. The house was perfectly equipped with a beautiful patio and stunning mountain vista. Crestone, a short drive away, is a quaint old mining town brimming with character. We thoroughly enjoyed wandering its streets and soaking in its unique atmosphere. Here's a local tip: if you need groceries, head to the Mercantile for better prices. Our main adventure was exploring Great Sand Dunes National Park, a true natural wonder just an hour away. We also experienced the hot springs in the area. Hopper Hot Springs offered a lively atmosphere with a large pool, perfect for families. However, for a more relaxing experience, we opted for the adults-only Greenhouse with its delicious food (entrance fee applies). If you prefer a smaller, less commercial hot spring experience, Joyful Journey might be a good alternative.

Beautiful little getaway! Comfortable and cozy. Be aware, there are VERY few options for eating out in Crestone and property does not have a microwave if you are planning to eat in. But otherwise, full kitchen that functioned well for what we needed. Gorgeous views!

This is such a wonderful property. Impeccably clean, and an excellent location that is both quiet and removed and just a few minutes from town. If you stay here, you can't miss with any of the local restaurants!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this casita!! Beautiful surroundings. Place was clean, private, comfortable and a great place to watch October 14th’s solar eclipse!! Highly recommend this place for your visit to Crestone.

Quiet and Peaceful - great place for our retreat
This lovely home was a wonderful place for our two week retreat. Lovely views from the windows and patio, and very peaceful. The kitchen is well-appointed with all the pots, pans and utensils we needed for cooking. Hope to return again next year!

Great spot to get away from it all
We were very happy with our stay. The casita was well kept and very clean. Our host was communicative and very helpful with info about the casita as well as the surrounding area. We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The views are amazing and the location is a great place to disconnect from the hectic pace of everyday life. Crestone is a few minutes away and has a small mix of galleries, a few eateries and a market. If you are there on a Thursday night, you have to head to the pub for open mic night. We will be back again!

Wonderful charming magical abode cabin with great views! Got a bit warm inside during a July heat wave, but the owners are looking into adding AC so that might not be an issue much longer. Merrin was a wonderful communicative host and a great all around person.

Super clean, super restful!
This 2 bed-2 bath home was super comfortable and very clean. We had no trouble with directions from the website. The kitchen is well stocked. The bedrooms were comfortable for us. Two queen beds, one in each room, were adequate for our needs. The windows open really wide and we were able to catch the breezes to cool the house during our June stay. The nights were cool and the stars were awesome. The main advantage for us was the view. The mountains were spectacular and even had snow on the tops. A fabulous stay all the way around. Property manager was spot on and quick with any questions we had.

A perfect relaxing escape
It was just what we needed; a beautiful, quiet, relaxing escape. Close to a number of great trails and sights including the Great Sand Dunes and the stars at night were truly magical. The place was clean, accommodating, and did I mention comfortable and relaxing? Highly recommend and we look forward to our next stay here.

Though the beginning of our stay was very "eventful" with the local water company accidentally turning off the water at the wrong house, Merrin took care of things immediately and within 2-3 hours we had the water back on. The water company apologized. For that "glitch," Merrin treated us to either a soak at a nearby spa or dinner at a local restaurant. We usually just eat in, but we got a yummy supper and the chance to meet some of the friendly folks in Crestone. Through it all, Merrin did a great job communicating and taking care of us. We enjoyed our stay. Everything we needed and wanted was available and comfortable. We loved the quiet, our early morning walks and exploring around the area with mountains one direction and the valley the other direction.The skies were mostly cloudy, so we missed the beautiful night sky, but it was still lovely.

Mother's Day Weekend
It was a very nice place to spend Mother’s Day weekend with my two kids ages 13 and 16. The property is easy access to the Sand Dunes (about an hour drive), quiet and very well kept! There was a small creek in the back yard that my son really enjoyed.

Beautiful and peaceful retreat spaxe
I was recently back at the Casita after many years and it felt like home. The communication with Merrin was clear and kind, the views were breathtaking, the wildlife and immersion in the natural world was what my soul needed. I will definitely be back!

Quiet house immersed in nature
We had a great stay at this house, which is surrounded by trees, but has views up to the mountains from the picture window. Everything we needed was there, and Merrin was a great host. Highly recommend.

Thanks Amy, for the great review. Thanks for mentioning the bathroom window as well. It is good for our guests to know we have a picture window over the bathtub. (I do show a picture of it on the site.) The Casita is unique in that you can see nature, and only nature, from each of the windows. My Casita is on 2 1/2 acres of forest, next to BLM land that is forest with Willow Spring running through the trees as well. The remote setting of the Casita is one of the draws for most guests, but it is indeed novel to be looking out on land while you shower. I do understand. I intentionally left the curtains out of the living room and bathroom areas. There are, however, curtains in the two bedrooms. Thanks again for your visit, and I do hope to have you as a guest again the future.

OASIS IN THE MOUNTAINS
We were long overdue for a vacation and felt like we really lucked out in finding this casita in Crestone. Truth be told, we didn't want to leave. It was nice to have the entire casita to ourselves and to be completely disconnected from our everyday pressures and immersed in such natural beauty. The casita is very well provisioned and the host was a top notch communicator.

Mountain getaway!
This place is a nature’s delight. It is secluded with so many windows which makes it feel like you are definitely in a retreat setting. The kitchen had everything we needed and I loved reading in the hammock. The owner was very communicative. I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful and comfortable property. Only problem is the fairly loud sounds at times in the night in one of the bedroom closets. Manager pre-warned us about these and attributed them to the house's inner wood structure expanding and shrinking between the day and night temperatures. Possibly.

One of the most relaxing places to stay in Colorado!
The Baca Grande Casita is truly magical! We had such a good time and Merrin worked with us to make our stay extra warm and welcoming. This place is tucked up against the wildlife preserve so you have a lot of privacy and the energy of the property is extremely positive and warm. Family mountain getaway
This mountain adobe casita is amazing! Our host made it very inviting. We had everything we needed. Very comfy and well put together. We were traveling with two toddlers and it was a great spot. Having laundry on hand was a big help. There were a few decorations that we had to move out of the way to prevent accidents, but it was not a big deal. The views are amazing. Very peaceful and comfortable. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed our time at the Casita. Crestone is a sweet little town with 2 small grocery stores. A lot of the restaurants were closed ( probably due to COVID), but there was a fun pizza place in town. We were about an hour away from the sand dunes. The property was beautiful, perfect for a getaway to reconnect with the family. Lots of walks and enjoying the view of Mt. Crestone from the front window. Beautiful, cozy, secluded place.

Nourishing retreat
What an amazing place to stay. Merrin's home is beautiful and well stocked with everything we needed for a thanks giving getaway. She was very generous in communicating the basics and more. Her casita is lovingly cared for, with quality amenities, and is centrally located. You can walk to lots of places in Crestone, if you want want to avoid being in a car. It was a joy to hang out in the main room which faces a 14,000 foot peak, or on the patio, enjoying the deer that came by to feed every evening. Kitchen is well stocked with the basics plus more. The beds/bedding are so comfortable, and the tub/shower is lovely with its big window. We loved retreating here and will be back.

Beautiful inside and out
The casita walls are mostly windows, allowing in sunlight and views of the trees and mountains. The furniture is very comfortable and the cabinets are well supplied. Grounds are very pleasant and private. The clear night sky is among the best we have seen in Colorado because of no nearby intruding lights. Working with Merrin to reserve and access the casita was easy and friendly.

Wonderful weekend
My wife, 4yp son and I spent a long weekend at Baca Grande and had a fantastic time. The property is very tranquil and the cabin is wonderful. Very clean and well organized. Close to hiking and the Sand Dunes. The host is friendly and very responsive. Highly recommend.

Great get-away
Such a beautiful peaceful stay in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Comfortable accommodations with great views of the mountains. Fun and interesting town close by with all we needed including organic produce! Wildflowers everywhere and visits from lizards, deer and rabbits made our stay even more enjoyable. What a great experience!

Merrin's Casita was the perfect base for a week of hiking and exploring the Sangre de Cristo's. We hiked all the major trails and climbed Kit Carson Peak. We loved the location of the Casita close to the Willow Creek greenbelt - good for an evening stroll. We hope to visit again soon!

Perfect Getaway to Tune Out and Tune In.
Heartfelt Gratitude & Thank You. Words that can describe our recent stay at this beautiful modern and yet simple hideaway. This little hideaway offers peace and serenity with all the minimum comforts that enable one to gently transform oneself from a city to nature. Merrin (the owner) is a wonderful human being who does everything to make sure that one only leaves the place with Good memories. She went out of her way for getting us a simple bath soap. Thank You for showing us your kind hospitality!!! The casita is very nice and stocked with all basic things for a comfortable living. The views are great and the outdoors is one step away. The place is perfect to tune out from the world and experience and appreciate life for what it is. The house was perfect for our family of four. The kids explored outside and enjoyed the hammock. We took a stroll to the creek which is very close. We could not get in as the water was forceful. The local grocery store is short drive and has a lot of good organic produce if one needs anything they might have missed. The mosquitoes are big and got us the first couple of days but towards the end, they seem to be leaving the place. We were able to enjoy the outdoors towards the end of trip. We were able to visit some of few spiritual centres that Crestone has to offer and cherish the experience. We also visited sand dunes and Zapato falls. This is a trip which we will cherish for a long time and look forward to coming back again. No fast food, no hotels, no billboards, no noise, no traffic. Perfect place to Tune out, Tune in & Experience Gratitude for life. Love and Peace.

Crestone Casita Get-a-way
Beautiful and enchanting property tucked in Crestone. Views and vibes of the Casita were spectacular. Merrin, the owner, was fabulous , easy to connect to, and accommodating. Although their was issue with the shower during our stay, she ensured our comfortability and communicated to get the situation reconciled. Perfect get-a-way to replenish and renew!
