Read the hotel policy on weekend noise. Yes, there is one; no, I didn’t read it.
Initial impressions are great. The staff are welcoming and the classic double room was well-finished to a high standard with all amenities you would expect. In hindsight, I would have appreciated at check-in the staff highlighting the room was immediately beneath the rear bar area with a speaker by the window.
Unfortunately, this only became apparent when we returned after dinner the first night. The noise was unbearable. We were so exhausted we decided to get some room service and attempt to drown the noise with the television. Fortunately, the music stopped around 11pm and we were able to sleep.
The second night we had arrived later, around midnight, expecting the noise to have finished. Our assumption was wrong. It was at this point, after trying to go along with it by having a drink in the bar, that we raised our concerns to reception. Eventually, after being asked why we hadn’t complained the previous night, I got the man to come to the room to understand the level of noise. He was apologetic, did offer another room but by this point, the music was waning and there was no point in moving. He did, however, offer a complementary drink order - thank you.
On check out, we highlighted our concerns again. The staff were reasonably apologetic but made no effort to compensate our grievances stating “the experience isn’t for everyone”; they’re quite right, it’s not.
