Our family of 4, 13/11 year old kids had a amazing time aboard the Pretty with Captain John. Staying onboard gives a unique perspective to the beauty of Bocas and was a wonderful experience. Living on the boat is a bit of an adventure and it isn't exactly a luxurious experience. The trade off is amazing ambience, access to nature, the best location and views in all of Bocas, and a fantastic captain. Aside from managing all aspects of his boat, John is a guide, surf instructor, dive master, and excellent chef. We had a great time and recommend this highly to those looking for a special trip.

Amazing trip, more than asked for.
We set sail on pretty for 2 nights with captain John. Our weather was a little hit or miss but the boat and captain John made every moment fantastic. From the amazing cooking to planning activities and sights for us (all while staying out of the rain) this trip was one we will all remember forever. I hope that we’ll be able to return and sail again many more times. Oh and the snorkeling was unbelievable. Salud!

Communications issues mar otherwise pleasant vacation
We had an overall pleasant trip on the sailboat Pretty. For two people, it was comfortable and as spacious as a sailboat can be. John's a good cook (although, as we'll get to, served meat to a pescatarian) and guide. We saw some beautiful places in Bocas del Toro province and enjoyed ourselves. However, our trip was overshadowed by some serious communication issues between Julie, John and ourselves. Despite providing her our travel info to/from Bocas, Julie had planned an impossible itinerary for our 3 nights on board - and none of it was thoroughly communicated to us in advance until the day before, which led to some unpleasantness on our last night as logistics were worked out. We also discussed how to pay, activities we wanted, and our meal/music/drink preferences beforehand but none of those were taken into consideration. Up until the day before arriving, it was unclear how we would complete payment. (In hindsight, I should have used Vrbo's payment features for security & peace of mind.) I also didn't appreciate being dumped into a water taxi (which we had to pay for on top of what we'd already paid) and dropped off at the dock on our last morning. Luckily our phones worked and we could navigate the walk to the airport on our own. Not a good way to end the trip.

We enjoyed our 3 day sail aboard the Pretty Life!
Captain Jon worked hard to make our sailing trip with him very enjoyable! He took us to a spot to snorkel that had dozens of star fish and the most colorful coral that I have ever seen! Captain Jon is also an excellent chef, he severed us gourmet food while we were aboard. He told us to treat his boat like it was ours and even let my husband drive!

Superb hospitality
John and Julie were great hosts. Very communicative from the start, no issues meeting up, and we were off the dock about 10 minutes after we arrived. The boat is in pretty good shape, and John gave us the run of both cabins below. A great trip. We sailed with our toddler (2.5), and he had a great time as well. John was amazingly adept at single-handing the boat and clearly an experienced sailor. I think he kept it fairly light for our comfort (and the wind didn't always cooperate), so we motored or motor sailed most of the time. And after he was done sailing, John cooked every meal we needed, including appetizers and snacks. The food and relaxation factor was what really put this over the top. He worked hard to make sure we didn't have to lift a finger and could relax, enjoy the sites, go swimming, or whatever we wanted to do. Truly an all-inclusive experience, with just enough adventure to keep it interesting. The high point of the trip for me was our visit to a cove that had dozens of friendly dolphins playing with the boat for almost an hour, and the ability to set our own itinerary and schedule made this exactly the trip we were looking for. Hope to see John and Julie again!

Trip for the ages
A terrific week aboard Pretty for my family of 4. Waking up and jumping into the beautiful waters of Bocas is worth the travel time to get there. John and Julie do a great job showing the splendor of the area while taking care of everything. Having three home cooked meals every day was also a special way to enjoy the time. I recommend this trip for families who like to try something different and feel the reward of of living on the sea.

The best way to experience Bocas
Bocas is a beautiful archipelago with a lot to offer, and Pretty is an ideal way to see it. Captain John will do everything possible to make your time there extraordinary. He listened carefully to our every request and anticipated the things we didn't know to ask. He and Julie are giving up their own space to share their life on the water -- without all the work. Our family of four greatly appreciate their efforts and enjoyed our time immensely. Everything on the water -- food, drinks, sports -- is included. You only pay for any shore excursions that you choose to take. Living on a 42 foot yacht is not for everyone. It is for those who don't want to join the mad dash of crowded speedboats out of town and the resorts every morning. It is for those who want to awaken on a quiet bay to a custom breakfast and the company of dolphins. It is for those who want to take in the sights while being cared for hand and foot. It is for those who enjoy fresh Caribbean fare lovingly prepared. It is for those who want to experience life on the water without all the upkeep. It is for those who want a custom itinerary on your own schedule, with a knowledgeable guide. It may not be for those who need huge bedrooms and bathrooms and who can't deal with minor inconveniences like a cold shower. It may not be for those who can't disconnect from the internet briefly. But if you're ready to kick back on this beautiful coast, give John and Julie a call.

Great experience
We spent 3 nights on the Pretty with John and Julie. They are amazing people and we had a great time. John sailed us around Bocas and showed us many beaches and snorkeling spots. He is an amazing cook and kept us well fed. I would recommend this as a great way to see and experience Bocas.
