Under renovations. We were not told about this prior to booking. Our room had sheet rock repair and had a smell of a nursing home. Staff unable to cancel our appt since we didn’t book through the motel. Signage in room said to lock door because construction may require entrance by workers.

Overbooked
Apparently hotels.com overbooked the hotel. We arrived at midnight with 2 sleeping children and were unable to check in. It took us over an hour with two extremely tired children to find a new hotel.

Clean and comfortable. Quiet since it’s not right on the highway. Only issue was an excessive use of Febreeze or other scented freshener. Still have a headache a day later

We liked the convenience of Location. We attended graduation at Samford University. Did have a confrontation with a desk clerk over fixing a stopped up commode. She stated there was no one there on weekend to fix problem. We could come down and get plunger. When I husband stated it would be the last time we would stay at Candlewood Suites she called back and said there should be someone coming up to fix. The issue was resolved and gentlemen cleaned up area.

Lady at front desk was very nice and helpful. There was a mix up with our room but she was able to help us get into a very nice clean room.

Located in a good area. Bathroom wasn’t clean and the TV remote had stuff spilled on it and we had no list of channels in the room and had to set up the TV using Spanish as there was no way to change to English and staff had no idea. Staff were very friendly and as helpful as they could be.

I don’t usually write a review, but if you are bringing your family or just wanting a quiet night in Birmingham this is not the place. There are several long term residents staying here and the smell of cigarettes and weed filled the hallways. One customer was unhappy with her immediate charges to her card, and began yelling at the front desk clerk(who reach out to have the police help)…they never showed up! Beds were comfortable and the staff was polite but the carpet, tv’s, and building is dated. Will not be back. Do not recommend.

Thank you for your review. The guest that was upset at the front desk was charged for smoking in the room, and the police did show up to escort them out. We do apologize about this inconviece to you. We do take the non smoking charges serisouly and if someone smokes in the rooms they are charged 250 and asked to leave. We are also going to be going through renovations in the near future, we hope after we are updated that you will try us again. Have a great day!

The toilet in the room did not work. The sink was leaking water. The fridge was dirty and still had food from the last customer. The elevator permit was out of date. I was really disappointed because i have stayed here before and it was excellent. Definitely need to get better overnight staff. I paid in advance but was told when i was checking in that i needed to pay another $25 which i had paid already in advance. When ibasled what this $25 was for the staff tells me she dont know i should already know since I booked the room. This was EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL! Also someone burned popcorn downstairs and set off the main alarm at 4 am which cause the whole building to evacuate. I had several small children with me and this woke everyone up. Overall, i was inconvienced and wasted almost $400 for a nothing.

I liked the kitchen set up. My husband thought the ice maker, frig, and A/C were a bit noisy. Overall I liked the one night stay.

Room was infested in fleas. Was in room for maybe 5 minutes. Showed the front desk the fleas we where picking iff of us. We are covered in bites. Front desk wasnt much help and doesnt know what they are doing when it comes to expedia bookings so it was a giant nightmare. No other rooms to fit us and had to find another hotel to stay at but yet my money still isn't back to me and it has been 4 days. If i didnt have money for a different hotel we would have been sleeping in our vehicle. Hotel even charged me a pet fee and we had zero pets after we tried to get the room situation fixed, guess i was being charged for their fleas as my pets.
