Dream hotel
Words cannot express the delight of this hotel. All the staff especially ilyan were so attentive and the attention to detail was amazing. Nothing was any trouble and the hotel is just so beautiful. I've been to some very nice hotels but nothing like this. Just book and don't hesitate.

Smart boutique hotel in the Gothic quarter
We stayed at Hotel Mercer for 5 nights. The room overlooked the inner courtyard rather than the street, so it was very quiet indeed - which was good.

Rustic and modern hotel in Gothic center
Staff is friendly and offers impeccable service. Great location in Gothic quarter, wonderful breakfast. Used to be a castle and retains Gothic charm but with very modern touches. Our first floor room opened on an ancient wall which was lovely but too dark. Would ask for room on higher floor, some had balconies which would bring in more light. Overall, great hotel and centrally located.

Perfect spot in Barri Gothic
The Mercer is well located, close to loads of great sights, but in a quiet laneway so you relax as soon as you walk through the front door. The staff are all very friendly and competent, speak a range a different languages and are extremely helpful.

Historical hotel in heart of Gothic District
We had an amazing time staying at The Mercer and would stay again. Loved quaint shops and cafes just steps away. Roof top terrace had wonderful seating options to take in a variety of old stone rooftop views. 5 star service from concierge and doormen. Celebrated our wedding anniversary and received delicious bottle champagne, Choclate cake and rose petals on our bed. Five stars!!

Nearly gets there
This is an excellent boutique hotel in almost every respect but slips up on some of the basics. The hotel is situated in an alley in the Gothic District where taxi drivers generally refuse to go. We had many e-mail exchanges with the hotel who didn't mention this (nor does the website). On arrival we ended up lugging our suitcases up the hill to try and find it. That said, once there, the staff are friendly, courteous and helpful. On two separate occasions the cooked breakfast, after a long wait, was served on cold plates, also cold and seriously undercooked. On our last night (of 3) we thought we'd celebrate after a concert and asked for a bottle of Rioja. Not one to be found in the whole hotel and this in Barcelona! We ended up with a Bordeaux! Overall though - a great stay we both enjoyed very much.

Perfect Location
The Mercer hotel is in the ideal central location with easy access to wonderful Barcelona. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the rooms are nicely appointed with a clever use of space. The roof terrace is great and very much appreciated in the hot weather as somewhere to relax after a days site seeing. I found the room temperature uncomfortably warm. The controls in the room do not work as I learnt temperature is centrally controlled when I went down to reception in the middle of the night unable to sleep. My room had been set to 23 degrees and I was told the lowest temperature was 19 degrees, not sure why. The temperature was kindly changed and it was an improvement, but it was still a bit too warm for me. I'm not a fan of lumpy mattress enhancers on a perfectly good quality, firm bed, but that's personal preference along with a nice firm pillow rather than the very soft ones provided I marked the room cleanliness down to 3 purely due to the shower. There are white slats in the bottom of the shower and the water gathers up through the gaps, so I looked to see if there was a blockage. I wish I hadn't as I don't think the shower tray underneath in my room has been cleaned very often, if at all - this is something the management really need to address as every other area of the hotel and the rooms are spotless. I do think this is a great hotel in the ideal location, and would highly recommend it as a quality base for exploring.

This is a wonderful boutique hotel. Most impressive is the design aesthetic - the combining of Ancient and ultra modern was exquisitely done! The staff was perfect in every way, and the restaurant was divine. kudos to the chef who has created an engaging cuisine - light and ethereal in almost a Japanese way, yet, original, unique and flavorable.

Most amazing hotel we have stayed in all of Europe! It's location was perfect, the hotel is historic and beyond gorgeous. The staff, every single person there was beyond helpful, welcoming, kind and bent over backwards to exceed every expectation even before we arrived theycontacted us to start assisting with dinner reservations or tours! They were AMAZING

Amazing hotel
We stay in a lot of 5star hotels and this place does all of the little things right. From not needing to have adapters because the ports take All plug types through to good shower head, good temperature and really comfortable bed and pillows. Great location in around all of the great little eats and bars the gothic quarter has to offers and the staff and service here is first class. Will return.

Quietly Special
This is a lovely Hotel. Location is fantastic in the Gothic Quater as we were walking distance from everything , shopping , beach and restaurants . The rooms are big , the decor is cool and edgy. It has a great little pool on the rooftop which is a welcomed relief at the end of a day of site seeing.

perfect .. located in the old city we were able to see all of the sights .... we walked everywhere ... and when that was difficult we took a "city tour bus" which allowed us to get on and off all day for no extra charge . the beach was very close by and restaurants where everywhere ! a very hip hotel ... quiet and funky GOOD !!!

Lovely understated hotel. Great mix of new and old structures. Bar quiet at night but so many great places to eat and drink around it that it wasn't a problem Only small niggle-the slatted bases in the lovely large showers were very unstable. Molten Brown toiletries were nice.

Hip boutique hotel in heart of gothic district
Love this place ! Built into part of original Roman 1st century wall the 3 story courtyard and rooftop pool are great spaces it was quite w only 28 rooms Staff amazing .concergie was so hepful and all their restaraunt recommendations were spot on Walking distance to all of the must sees in Barcelona Heres an example of the service : We had early flight on check out and even though the restaraunt was closed they arranged to have tea and crossiants waiting for us in the lobby before our long flight Highly recommended and will def stay again

Simply amazing!
My husband and I stayed a couple of nights in this wonderful hotel. It's located in the heart of the gothic area of Barcelona and within a walking distance of nice shops, great restaurants, the beach, and the Picasso Museum! The staff was amazingly friendly and the concierges couldn't be nicer. The view of the roof is astonishing! Everything that this hotel has to offer is over the top! Will definitely be back!

Great Hotel in the Gothic Quarter
My husband and I stayed at Mercer Hotel during the Barcelona portion of our honeymoon in Spain and we were very happy with our experience. We found the rooms to be well-kept, the staff to be friendly and very helpful--especially Ricard, and we really liked the location.

4 day break to Barcelona
If you get the opportunity to stay at the Mercer Hotel, grab it with both hands. My wife and I hadn't been to Barcelona before so we selected the hotel based on its location in the Gothic Quarter and positive reviews from other people who had stayed. We were not disappointed. The hotel is an absolute delight, situated on one of the narrow lanes, it can be easily missed. Our taxi took us directly to the door, which was an experience in itself. From the time we stepped out of the car right up until the time we left the staff were excellent; in fact the taxi that came to pick us up when we were leaving, wouldn't drive down the lanes to the hotel as they were too narrow. No problem, the concierge and doorman took our luggage and walked with us to pick up the taxi. In addition to the very friendly and helpful staff the hotel building and interior decorations are exceptional. This is an historic building which has been lovingly restored. It still has many original structural features yet still provides a very modern and contemporary feel with carefully chosen décor. I cant do it justice in a write up you have to see it to appreciate it. The location of the hotel was also ideal, right in the heart of the gothic area it is a short walk to the Barcelona Cathedral, la Rambla and the the market (la Boqueria). I have no problem recommending the Mercer to anyone, it is now one of our favourite hotels in the world.

Best Hotel in Barcelona
My husband and I had never visited this beautiful city but were determined to stay in a central area but with all the comforts an older couple would like: comfortable, quiet rooms with an individual aura about the whole of the hotel. It has been beautifully renovated from old Roman wall and building. The Mercer was one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed and, believe me, we have stayed at some lovely places. The staff were so helpful and faultless. Thank you.

Overall great stay at the Mercer. Location is ideal and the hospitality staff are very friendly and helpful. The style of the hotel was perfect for our trip. The only complaint is that the hotel breakfast was overpriced and the servers overwhelmed. There are much better options to eat around the neighborhood

Georgeous hotel combining ancient and modern achitecture. My daughter's purse was stolen through the car window while we were searching for the hotel so we arrived in a terrible state. The staff of the hotel did everything possible to make us feel better, including a room upgrade.

We stayed at the mercer for 4 nights. The location is superb. You can walk to everything. The hotel staff is exceptional, constantly going above and beyond on service. The conceirge desk made outstanding recommendations every day.

Interesting Boutique Hotel!
We arrived at the Mercer Hotel for a 5 night stay to celebrate my birthday and to see the sights of Barcelona. Neither of us had been to Barcelona before and were hoping that we had chosen the right area in which to stay. We were not disappointed. Set right in the middle of the Gothic Quarter surrounded by quaint streets and nooks and crannies! From the minute that we arrived the Staff were attentive and helpful and our room was ready, always a bonus. We loved our room, comfortable, large, and in a quiet part of the hotel. We were soon out and about and found all sorts of squares, cafes, restaurants, and bars, and of course, we were close to La Ramblas and shops. Regarding praise for the staff ,We would especially like to mention Florencia, who certainly went the extra mile, and Juan Manuel and the bar staff upstairs by the pool bar where we stopped each evening before retiring. Also we appreciated the special attention on my birthday!

5 nighst in Barcelona - loved Mercer!
My husband & I stayed for 5 nights at the Mercer in July and were so happy we ended up choosing this hotel! The location is great - in the Gothic Quarter down a cute, quiet little side street. Beautiful lobby and simple, modern beautiful rooms. The roof deck was great - a dipping pool to cool off and it got great sun all day. All of the staff was friendly & helpful. Evening cocktails up there were nice. My only compliant would be the location of our room - we were in room 305 right under the roof deck - and every morning between 7 and 9am the staff would start to clean up the roof deck from the night before moving tables & chairs around and their must not be much insulation because it woke me up every morning. Maybe I'm a light sleeper? Honestly thats me being picky - everything was wonderful, but next time I'll ask to stay in a different room ; )

Wonderful Experience
The staff could not have been more accomodating! The conceirge staff was more than helfpul securing dinner reservations, tour setups, cabs etc. Even back in Feb when I booked the room they made wonderful suggestions and reservations where needed. The hotel itself is a place to explore as it is located on ancient ruins. From our balcony we could see a dig that was being worked on. No question I will plan on staying here when I come back to Barcelona!
