“Good Hotel. Great location”

“Just perfect!”

The staff was so welcoming and they gave me a lovely room overlooking the square. There was a Nespresso Machine in my room which is my all time favorite amenity. The bathroom was a little small, but the shower pressure in the bathroom was unreal, one of the best ever! I would definitely stay there again.

“Small but very nice Amsterdam Hotel”

Perfectly fine small quiet (mostly) hotel in the center of Amsterdam. Very clean, good breakfast. Wifi didn't really work for our tablet. We would recommend this hotel.

Area recommendations

Downtown was fine if very bustling. For a longer stay I would try to find a quieter location.

“First class hotel”

I enjoyed very much staying in this hotel for it's great location, cleanliness and courteouse and helping staff. Be careful of pickpocketers in Amsterdam. I was pickpockted for my Passport and fifty Euros. Very aggravating. .

“The most helpful and friendly staff ever”

The most helpful and friendly staff at the reception desk: making international phone calls for us (we lost a backpack in Germany), checking train schedules and making recommendations, giving directions, etc. We cannot thank them enough.

“Great Location”

This hotel was a ten minute walk from the train station, so no cab was needed. It was really in the heart of the city close to everything. The gym was small but nice with a great view to work out to in the morning.

“Wish the neighborhood was better”

The Swissotel was welcoming, the front desk staff very accomodating, and the room, while small, comfortable. The Nespresso machine in the room and the complimentary newspapers were great amentities. We were steps away from the Dam and the Palace, close to shopping and transportation was just out the door. . .everywhere in Amsterdam was accessible. The only negative was that the neighborhood was like Times Square. . . .noisy with many fast food outlets and stores geared to a younger crowd and young families and many tourists. While we ourselves are tourists, we prefer neighborhoods that are quieter and allow us to learn more about the culture and people of the city and country.

Area recommendations

While I am not familiar enough with the city to be specific we would recommend quieter neighborhoods with small hotels and/or BnBs and resturants patronized by the locals. While we are young at heart anc very active, we are not young and while the Swissotel is a lovely place to stay, its location did not appeal to us.

When to go

In general we prefer travelling in the early spring or late fall when there are fewer tourists and it's much easier to get around and explore, eat in wonderful restaurants, and get to spend some time with the locals.

Must see

The museums, the Anne Frank House, and just stroll the neighborhoods and admire the houses and visit the shops and boutiques.

“great hotel excellent staff”

swissotel amsterdam was a great hotel. rooms a little small. busy, busy section of town. the staff was the best. very friendly, very knowledgeable of all of amsterdam. was able to direct us to ever place we needed to go. loaned me a vase for the fresh tulips i bought. caroline and diego were like old friends. wish i could go back next april. hello everybody at swissotel. the batemans

canal areas. damrak too busy, dirty

When to go

go in april when tulips are blooming. be sure to visit kukenhof gardens, schans zschans windmills. volendam, marken. ride the trains, trams, and conexxion buses. we took the train to paris and brussels. beautiful experience. never tkae taxis they are not on up and up.
