The Historic Afton Hotel
We love this hotel. We will for sure be coming back. It just has a cool vibe. The current was a great hang out spot. The vibes from the staff made it right. Thanks for the great stay.

Thank you for your reveiw and feedback. Yes we do have quiet time for the jacuzzi jets after 10pm as they do make a good amount of noise and we try to please our guests that are trying to sleep. Being a historic hotel, we do have a historic side, but also have a newer side that is more of a victorian style, so we hope you try us again on the newer side.Thank you!

Cute small town inn
Charming, historic inn that could use some updating. The staff was friendly and the complimentary breakfast was good. We got one of the bigger rooms and the jetted tub was nice. Sometimes there’s a curfew so be aware of that. However, my big downside is the older crowd that the inn restaurant draws. I work with people and I’m a friendly people person in general. It was clear that my presence as a younger queer person made them uncomfortable- they constantly gawked at me whenever I left my room, they were disrespectful, and even when I politely held the door for them they ignored me. The inn itself and staff were lovely - it’s a shame that their customers are not.

Yes we do have 10pm quiet time for our Jacuzzi Tubs, so when the jets are running, it doesn't disturb neighboring rooms. Best place to stay in Afton, Minnesota
I love the historic aspect of it, and Peggy was amazing with her fine dining experience and told us the history of the Afton historical in. Everyone was so happy and wonderful, and the rooms were very clean. They really know how to make cocktails in the bar and they have a wide variety of wines at swirl. The food was amazing not that much attention to the morning breakfast we had to get our own stuff like coffee cups and silverware and dishes. They weren’t so great at replenishing breakfast but that’s OK. The rest of the state made it more than worthwhile and the views are beautiful of the marina and Saint Croix river and your Jean at the front desk is amazing at up selling, so that’s awesome, she gave us so many ideas of things to do in the area as we came down for the strawberry festival, but weren’t as many strawberry things as I anticipated with the vendors should be more strawberry things. It is a great place to go and relax and unwind, and be together .

Not economical or as safe as we prefer.
This hotel is good for people who don't have health isssues. My husband is handicapped and really shouldn't be doing stairs. When we asked to be moved downstairs we were told there would be another $96 charge to do that. The watwr smelled and tasted like well water and the purified water cost $3 each. It was just not economical for us.

Hi Kim, We apprecaite your feed back. If we would have known that you needed a 1st level room prior to your arrival, we would have suggested that. Unfortunatley our less expesive main level rooms were already booked and we were not able to switch you to a comperable room type. We do apologize for the water smell and can assure you we are working on that. We the high waters of the river during the flooding our softner was damaged and a new softner is on order so everything will be in perfect working order again. The suite room we were upgraded to was real nice, the staff was very accommodating. The only thing lacking in my Opinion was the complementary breakfast. All else was great!

I liked the overall property. It’s a quaint old house with two restaurants conveniently linked, and jetted tubs in many rooms. Great location, friendly staff, very good breakfast. What I liked less was the condition of the room. The bed was uncomfortable, the pillows were lumpy, and the lighting was weird. My room only had two light options: the switch by the door, most of which were industrial lights that were focused on the ceiling, and the bathroom light, which was behind the door (hard to find) and ran the fan. There was no reading light that could be reached from the bed, and only one lamp to give off mellow light. The room was just kind of tired. There is a difference between historical charm and worn out, and this was more the latter. Tired linens, tired curtains, tired towels. Finally, double-check the price on Expedia vs. the hotel’s site. I did not do so and got overcharged by Expedia as a result.

Good Morning Karla,Thank You for your comments. We do have that room scheduled for tearing off the wall paper and painting along with new window treatments. We are just waiting to get on the schedule. We just replaced the bed and carpeting withing the last year. We use the My Pillows on the beds and not had any complaints however you do have to someone mold or shape the pillows for your comfort. We do have other feather pillows as well. I can assure you we pleased with the upcoming changes.

Hot tub was dirty when turned on jets - Didn't use. Bathroom was very small, fits only 1person at a time. No fridge or tables to put personal items. However, it did have that vintage old world feel, furniture, and amenities. The staff were friendly, and clean restaurants/bars.

Our newer suites are larger and have refrigerators, end tables, larger Jacuzzi tubs and larger bathrooms than the historic rooms. We hope you come back and try us again.Thanks again!

There was no hot water in our jacuzzi tub or shower, the fireplace didn't work, they didn't have reserved hotel parking spots & we had to park blocks away. There was only 2 pillows & the way they advertised that the water in the room costed additional money was in a deceitful manner. For $200 it wasn't worth it.

Two thumbs down.
Rooms outdated. Room itself stunk of sewage. Was expecting to use bottom floor for a room due to my wife being handicapped but that was not the case. Had to climb stairs instead of having a elevator. Charged almost 5.00 for 2 cans of pop. Talk about a rip off. Won’t ever go back to this place again. -5 stars.

Again we apologize that you did not understand that you booked a 2nd floor room through expedia. We are a historic hotel and do not have an elevator and I checked with expedia and it did state that. I wish we could have accomodated you on the first level, but we were already sold out. Pop is $2 a can plus tax which is about the normal rate anywhere. We are very sorry that you were not happy but there was nothing we could do as other guests booked the 1st floor rooms.

The front desk staff was pleasant and accommodating. However, a man who described himself as the general manager rather aggressively introduced himself to me in the parking lot when I sat outside in my car finishing some business on my phone. This guy was a bit condescending as well - which is funny, because I am a 46 year old Naval Officer. I laughed it off, but it was annoying nonetheless.

We spent the night here and it was not quite what we expected. Pictures are a bit deceptive in size of rooms. But then the name Afton Hpuse Inn should have told us that. Queen beds seemed more like doubles. The system is on well water which we found heavy tasting and was surprised that we had to pay $3 for a bottle of water. Overall the stay was alright because of history and attached restaurant and bar with super service! For the price we will look for another venue when we come to visit son again.

The room wasn't quite what we expected. Very dated! I think the bed was a full when it was listed a queen. The bed was very uncomfortable! The food in the resturant was very good! Breakfast was good.

We loved how they took a historic building and made it all so nice. The breakfast was awesome, the jacuzzi tub was fantastic and there was a wonderful wine shop right on site.

I loved the breakfast. That they kept as much as possible of the old fashioned look while being modern. I loved the wood. I didn't enjoy the mattress being very firm and the pillows being soft but that's because I prefer it the other way around. Its a beautiful property and friendly staff. It is not handicap accessible. If you can not easily walk up big steps and a steep spiral climb I would not stay there. The bathrooms are also small. The place is gorgeous and I enjoyed my stay.

Cute, Historic Hotel
Had a wonderful stay at Afton House. I loved that they walk you to your room when you check in and that there was breakfast in the AM. It's right downtown Afton with 2 restuarants and a wine bar on site. Many walking trails, ice cream shop, and cute stores to view.

That it was started back in the 1800's would have been nice to hear more of the history of how it has been kept up over the years. What I didn't like was that not all of the lights worked, the refrigerator needed to be defrosted.

Adorable little bed and breakfast, the staff was very friendly and room very clean. The property itself was about what you can expect for a building originally built in 1867! We had no issues at all and really liked the onsite restuarant as well as attached coffee shop. Would love to come back for a longer stay!
