Great View and location, bad everything else.
Our stay was pretty good, except there was dead ladybugs all over the balcony and inside the door. The wifi was terrible, .8 of a megabyte was the highest we saw. The room had damage to furniture and was, the closet door was just hanging with a broken track. The pool had someone's wig hair chunks floating in it and some food that wasn't cleaned up. There would be water hoses in the pool and in the jacuzzi left on the it would over fill the jacuzzi and it was ice cold and same with the pool. During that time the pool was not enjoyable to swim due to how cold it was. we had to notify staff multiple times that they forgot the hose on and they would apologize and turn it off but then we would have to wait around 6 hours for it to heat up to bearable temperatures to even swim which would only allow us about an hour or 2 of swim time before the pool closed.
The lobby area was beautiful. My room view was amazing. The room was newer (fixtures) but cleaning was minimal. Basic surfaces had not been wiped down at all or well. The pool area was nice and very spacious. The hot tub was also nice. I did not observe any staff cleaning these areas though. Nice place for a family, would stay here again just come with clorax wipes and water shoes.
We chose this place for a romantic overnight. Unfortunately, the room that we chose was an adjoining room with a chatty kid next door. We were very happy that the concierge accommodated our request for a room change. Once that was settled, we enjoyed the clean room and woke up to an amazing view of the sunrise over Lake Michigan.
Check out is at 11 and if you ask for late check out the same morning you get an extra 30 min. If you kiss their ass the day before they give you til 3pm. They’ll say the best they can do is 11:30am and that is just a lie
Property was beautiful. Staff courteous and helpful. We were not able to take advantage of a lake view room (pet friendly rooms were park view). Lobby cozy with a great view. I'd like to come back in more temperate weather when I have time to take advantage of the grounds and hiking areas. Room was clean. Pool was huge. One and only complaint was the shower. Extremely low pressure provided what felt like a dribble of less than hot water. Paired with a slow drain, this made for a suboptimal visit after arriving late in the day. I could have contacted the desk for the drain issue, but the water pressure and temperature were not something that could be immediately addressed. I'll admit I'm overly critical of this issue, but on a short stay, it is a big part of the time spent. Hopefully all the rooms are not similarly affected. The setting and property is worth a second try.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel did a great job with following the Covid guidelines. The beach trails were amazing! Will definitely come back!
We stayed in a partial lake view room, but it was a great view for us! Great relaxing time to walk on the beach and hiking paths. We had a blast and will return.
What a beautiful little gem. Gorgeous views, nice staff, the decor was a bit of a throwback, but still nice. The hot tub was dated and very small but it had a nice, big pool. The hotel abided by the COVID rules, masks in common areas and hand sanitizer everywhere. The private beach access was nice, make sure you have a parking pass or your car will be towed. Looking forward to more normal times when we can utilize all of the state park activities. There was some construction because they were repairing damage from a flood earlier in the year. It didn’t effect our stay but I’m curious to see what it looks like when they are done.
This was our first stay and Illinois Beach Hotel was great! The staff (at the front desk and restaurant) are all friendly and quite helpful. The food at the restaurant is really good and fairly priced. It's a beautiful location right on the lake in the midst of a large state park with plenty to explore. The rooms are clean and spacious with nice views of its surroundings. We reserved a room with 2 queen beds, but they were quite cozy and felt more like a full than a queen. The hotel is recovering from lock down due to COVID-19 and flooding from last spring, but seem to be managing despite these obstacles. The indoor pool is large and pleasant, and most importantly the kids really loved it. There is much to do if you bring the right equipment with you (beach toys, kayaks, bikes, etc). Organized activities (by the resort) for the kids would really take this place up a notch. Additionally, nightly fires would be terrific especially since the pits are already in place. We inquired but were told there is an additional (large) fee to have a fire. I don't know if they offered these things before COVID and plan to again, but either way we will definitely be back. I look forward to our next stay!
Disappointing. Beds are so hard thought the mattress/box spring were reversed at first. Books 2 Queen beds, got 2 Doubles. Booked Lake View (view was of roof and AC/equipment). At best this was 'obstructed/partial lake view' (and that's being generous). No Spacing in room assignment...neighbors both sides, when there should be plenty of space to allow separation. very loud (thin walls). at 1am other groups in hall running around/between rooms/slamming doors/etc. Beach is only for sitting...the facility has high retaining wall so no access to water from beach in the publicity photos. Lots of flies around due to the swampy/mucky area surrounding the hotel. Some areas of hotel grounds appear to be old damage and closed off, accumulating debris and looks like abandoned buildings/frames/structures. Broken signs hidden in bushes around the abandoned area said something like "Warning. Asbestos in Sand/Water"...is this old and unneeded or being hidden?
All entrances locked except for main lobby (facing away from beach/water). Front desk said you have to walk out the main steps and a around the building, can't access beach/water from the sides of the hotel facing same.
We stayed here instead of our planned visit to Simmons Island in Kenosha due to protests. Should have gone on to Kenosha after all.

Dissapointed
Arrived to check in and room wasnt available. I was told rooms might be available in a hour or so and was asked for my phone number and i was told they would call me. 5hrs went by and no call. But when i get to the desk, everybody else is chrcking in no problem. Restaurant waitress seemed high. Couldnt remember anything. She was taking our food to other tables and took forever to bring us the check and even longet to come get it. It wasnt even busy. The location of the hotel is great but everything else was crappy.

Couldn’t connect to WiFi the entire 2 days I was there. Also the land line phone in the room didn’t work and I couldn’t call the front desk. I walked down to let them know about the WiFi and the phone and the front clerk didn’t seem like she cared too much and did nothing.
