A Quiet Winter Family Vacation
Overall
We loved staying here! This is a beautiful modern take on a farmhouse cottage. The atmosphere is peaceful and serene. Very few cars drive on the road leading to the house, accentuating the quietude. The quality of the stay is extremely high, especially compared to the very reasonable prices. Stay here if you want to relax in nature, want solitude, or love the idea of living a simpler life.
Local Thoughts
We live in a rather flat state, so the twists and ups and downs of the roads were a shock. Be prepared for narrow roads, few guardrails, and occasional fog due to the Muskingum River. Some of the turns onto the local highway leading to the house are easy to miss, so pay close attention when driving there. The driveway is also a bit steep.
Zanesville is a fifteen-minute drive away, with the local mall only thirty minutes out. Columbus is about an hour away via the highway, but beware of traffic the closer you get. Dillon Dam is close by, as are many other national parks.
Idiosyncrasies
These are not marks against the house, which is delightful, but are useful to know before you arrive:
• Use single ply toilet paper due to the septic tank.
• The upstairs bathtub is clean despite the hard water stains.
• The kitchen has limited cookware and dinnerware, and no dishwasher or mixer.
• The smart TV can be connected to streaming devices, but has no DVD player.
• The WiFi is great, but the cell service is poor.
• Some roads are difficult to navigate for large vehicles.
