Service absolutely not up to scratch for a 4* !
Non-existent welcome at check-in. The only words were to get me to pay for the room... Noisy room (street noise), illuminated mirror out of order, coffee maker leaking, bedding far too soft. Rooftop: 4 blankets to enjoy the terrace when it was cool for 50 places. That's 90% of unhappy customers. Restaurant, dinner: fillet of beef served overcooked for a rare order. We had to send the dish back Restaurant, breakfast: the experience began with a queue... unexpected for a 4*! Tables not cleared. In conclusion: a disappointing stay. When we spoke to other guests, we found the same thing!

Attentive staff and lovely room. Although on Expedia I booked a standard room with a toddler bed but at the hotel they can not cater for a toddler bed in a standard room so we were forced to upgrade which was a bit annoying and then to pay an extra £30 a night for the bed

Very good hotel with boutique-feel. Good spacious bedroom with excellent bathroom and storage. Staff were friendly & professional. Good breakfast & cooked to order hot choice. Excellent position near station & city centre. Underground on-site parking very limited & extra charge.

Hotel is situated in a convenient & central location within walking distance to bars, restaurants & amenities. I did struggle finding the car park & navigating the one way system but got there eventually. Just needed to know to look for NCP carpark sign. Had a lovely stay! I like the new updated decor.

The room was overall a nice room but unfortunately the name of this hotel did not live up to its expectations. The temperature control in the room did not work and in a warm day that’s really not great as there was no cooling at all. The windows cannot be opened due to safety so makes it worse. There were no fans available either. Housekeeping just said sorry can’t help. The shower tray had hair in it which was off putting so could have been cleaned properly. The hotel should stock more drink options. There was one sachet of green tea so had to ask for more. It was a nice hotel but not sure i would want to stay at a Malmaison again.

The pillow cases did not seem to be cleaned smelled like sweat. The lighting pretty much didnt exist. Air conditioner did not turn on, called to front dest stated it would take about an hour to turn on. People at front desk was rude and snotty. Over all i wouldn't recommend this hotel at all.

Overall the property was good. The air conditioning didn’t work so the room got very warm, also the fridge didn’t work and it was really dark in some parts of the room.

The hotel is in an amazing location, so near to the centre of York. The reception staff were lovely, really friendly & helpful. The room was very quirky. Much better than expected. Some reviews said the rooms were dark but ours was flooded with light from the huge window. Very good breakfast.

Nice hotel and room. We ate in the rooftop Sora bar which was nice but a bit overpriced. Our room was lovely, my only niggle was that the fridge was pretty useless, It's kept enclosed in a cupboard so was overheating.

The washing facilty was poor with a tiny mirror which was too low down to use to shave. The room was too hot and the windows did not open which left the only option as air con which was loud and kept needing be adjusted.

Definitely not the normal malmasion experience. No running water on one of the morning No bedding for the second bed When the second bed was unfolded it was covered in dirt and dust No interest from the front desk Been to the mal many times before and this never happens

Check in is strictly from 3pm even though the rooms were available. This causes huge waits and frustration not only for guests but the staff are also placed under huge pressure. All hotels we stayed in on our trip were accommodating to checking in earlier without make the guest feel uncomfortable. The parking in the area in non existent for vans or hight top vehicles. They just say you need to park 10min away and walk. Tough luck really. Our room was on the second floor and was very loud, from other guests slamming doors, heavy feet from above and the street noise from below. The street noise from buses, loud cars kept us up all night. I would recommend other hotels before booking here.

Convenient location, however we were not satisfied with the cleanliness and amenities of our room. Dusty and lots of debris on the floor. The toilet room walls were stained. For the price we were expecting a bit more amenities such as travel size toothpaste. Didn't use the bath robes as they felt scratchy and we were not sure if they were clean. Kettle's full of lime scale so we didn't use it as well. Genuinely confused as we thought this was a relatively new hotel but we've stayed at cleaner and better equipped rooms at some budget chains before. The reception staff members were friendly and helpful though.

beautiful hotel, bad suite design
the hotel is modern and very nice. the people working there were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately our suite had a raised platform with two stairs to get to the bed. Also the stairs had bright lights on a motion sensor that would light up in the middle of the night any time there was movement around the bed. my wife brokke her wrist when she got up at night and fell down the stairs on her way to the bathroom. I'm not sure why they felt a need to raise the floor under the bed. the furniture looks good but the couch was very uncomfortable to sit on. the bathroom was well layed out but the ighted make up mirror was dificult to use for shaving.
