The Avonlea location was excellent and the room was OK. I have never written a negative review before but felt that we did not get very good service or value at the Avonlea! The entrance staircase was disgusting because the carpeting on the staircase was dirty and soiled. The TV did not work and the support staff said they would fix the TV but never showed up. Funny because I read the same in other reviews of the property. The Avonlea is a charming and comfortable inn situated in the heart of Stratford -- perfect for enjoying the theaters, food, shopping, and everything else the town has to offer. Our room was well appointed, clean, quiet, and roomy. Although parking is not available, the host will gladly recommend nearby lots that are an easy walk from the inn. Room is comfortable, well stocked and clean. Detail instructions to check-in/out. Beware of the following conditions for 3rd floor unit: 1) smoke smell is noticeable in room and permeates to any clothes taken out of luggage even in short stays. 2) two sets of stairs to reach 3rd floor can be challenging with mobility issues or heavy luggage 3) No front desk or storage room to keep luggage on early check-in or late check-out. It works like an Airbnb, not a hotel. We are thankful for the early check-in granted (not always feasible) and the recommendation to check if a nearby hotel can store luggage (not alwways feasible). 4) No water for about 1/2 hour at 9:00 am. It was my fault for not reading the email I received the morning of...so I was surprised to find a locked door. However, when I called, the lady helped me very quickly and was very nice. The room was very nice. It had everything we needed. One minor issue (for me because I don't watch TV) but the TV had no signal. We had no TV or even Netflix or whatever.
