"Our stay was reasonably comfortable, except for a few small factors: 1. It’s a shame that they allow smoking in the rooms because we are non-smokers and smoke particles cannot be completely eradicated from the room even with a room humidifier and spray fragrance. "I would have to say I have mixed feelings about my stay. I'll start with the positives. The private baths that you can reserve were wonderful and easy to book. The staff were all very nice , especially the restaurant staff. The hotel is charming...but in places looking a bit dated. My room was very spacious and functional...however I did have one issue withe the small refrigerator in the room. Every 2 hour or so it would make a loud grinding sound which woke me up several times... I eventually needed to unplug it ... I even recorded the sound so I could relay my concerns to the front desk when I checked out."

"We have stayed at à few Hoshinoya hotels in Japan & Taiwan but this is the worst one so far. The room is dark, outdated and to get from bed to bath with many steps makes it difficult at night when the lights are so dim. Only tap water is complimented in the room . The meditation onsen is so dark inside all you see is dark wall no day light the vibe makes me feel scary not relaxing. No compliments of milk or ice cream after bath only juices cans sharing outside of the bath house for both genders. We don’t feel welcome from some of the staffs here like others Hoshinoya hotels we have stayed. No greeting, no smiling . It’s not worth the money we have spent to staying here . We stayed 2 nights @ river front room."

"The hotel only a 5min walk from Karuizawa station. Bike rentals are available in the hotel itself, which was very convenient. You can cycle to Kumoba pond and the Old Ginza Street and be able to reach in less than 30mins. I stayed for 7 nights. Breakfast was delivered in a basket at your preferred time (from 7am to 9.30am). Room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was spacious as well and the best part was the auto toilet bowl. Room is cleaned everyday, but if you wish not to be disturbed, the staff will just leave a fresh set of towels and bottled water in a paper bag outside your door, which was a very nice touch. Had a comfortable stay here and will definitely come back again!"

"This is a decent "Business Hotel" style very close to the station. Rooms are always small in this style but had everything I needed and a fair priced coin laundry (albeit one washer and one drier only) to catch up on laundry during the trip. Station is a fair hike from the old town and various "sights" but there's a bus for ¥100 to old town, cycle hire, taxis etc. Station has lots of amenities, restaurants etc nearby (next to the outlet mall). It has parking, although I didn't have a car during my stay - would be a good option to hire and use as a base to explore the area maybe. Would certainly come back as a solo traveller."
