These locks not only allow ships to navigate the St. Lawrence River from Montreal to Lake Ontario, they also enable vessels to bypass Niagara Falls. Of the Seaway's 15 locks, two are in the United States and 13 are in Canada. We were able to watch this ship being lowered through this lock.
