Down a few garden steps is a lovely terrace and south facing patio which leads to the entrance. The benefit of leaving your car up top of the hill-which we did- is that it won’t detract from the house’s charming position: perched high over Sarlat, it is surrounded by little meadows. The house is spacious, and has a very cosy, private feeling. And yet it is closer to the medieval centre than we first thought. Through a garden gate and down some steps, a paved public path runs through an ancient neighborhood below, leading you to one of Sarlat’s squares. From front door to the square is maybe a five minute walk. If you can, plan your visit around the Saturday market which is held in the town center.This property is a gem. The kitchen is well appointed, the living area and bedrooms spacious. A short drive in almost any direction will take you to any number of castles and villages.Our host was very gracious and most helpful. We are already planning our return visit!" The location is unbeatable — right in the middle of the medieval city and just below the Sanctuary. It’s perfect for exploring Rocamadour on foot. The hotel feels new and modern inside, even though it’s set in such a historic area. My room was spacious, very clean, and had a comfortable bed, a sofa bed, and a modern bathroom. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet (18 euros) was excellent — plenty of choice and good quality. I was also able to park just outside the city gate, about 200 meters from the hotel, for €6.50 overnight and then I had the perfect parking spot for the next day, which was very convenient. It was the perfect place to stay for one night so I could enjoy Rocamadour early in the morning before the tourists arrived. The only small downside was the hair dryer — one of those typical weak hotel ones that take forever to dry your hair. Also, the town is very quiet after 7 p.m. (I was there on a Wednesday in late October), with most places closed, including restaurants. Even though the hotel’s restaurant is open, the kitchen closes at 8:30 p.m., and there weren’t many people around, so the atmosphere felt a bit dull. I ended up having dinner at the restaurant just outside the city gate, which was the only lively place that evening.
