Cozy Beach Hideaway
This cozy room was true to the photos and descriptions. If you want to get away from the large resorts and feel like a local, this is the place. The staff was always very friendly and guests met and mingled in the common areas.

No enough parking, NO AC, small noisy room
This hotel is like a family run business. The staff is very friendly. BUT! there is NO AC in the room. no enough parking( 6 parking lots for 12 rooms, which I had confirmed with the staff. Half of the customer need to find a street overnight parking in the small crowed town). The room is very very tiny, around 100 square feet. Two twin bed filled most of the space. The size of the room is 1/3 or even 1/4 of a economy level motel like Motel 8 or Travel lodge. And the room don't have a windows so it is super noisy!! There is a shared deck closed to 3 of their rooms, mine is one of them. People just chat 10 feet away from your bed. The only thing protect your privacy is a funny curtain. Order this hotel with Caution!!

Clean and cute with good location
Really enjoyed my stay here. The room was clean and the hotel was cute. My room had a large comfortable bed with air conditioning and a mini fridge. It was steps away from a coffee shop...open my door, walk 10 steps and would be in the courtyard of Paia bay coffee. Parking spaces are a bit small but I was always able to find a spot and all the parking is free. I never saw any hotel staff but that was fine with me. Will definitely stay here again.

Had a blast hated to leave!
Friendly wonderful people if you're an uptight couple go somewhere else. Very clean and well done!! Had a blast!! Curtain for a bathroom door :-)) Go and have fun!!

Great place
Nice room, great location, directly in the center of the beautiful Paia. BBQ available, cheap for what you"ve got. Bed not firm at all so I hope you prefer that (not me!). Nice garden.

While it's very funky, I like that there was no tv! I also liked the location even though there was limited parking. I'll stay again.

The worst place I have ever stayed
I stayed here for four nights. If I did not have to prepay the entire four night with Expedia, I would have moved. The room was not cleaned or made up ever. They did not even empty the waste paper basket. The toilet is in the bedroom, is separated only by a curtain. There is no privicy. The only chair in the room was needed to put the suitcase on. The lighting was dim at best. There is no air conditioning or telephones. There is almost no parking at the lodge. You have to park on the busy Hana Road (the Road to Hana)., My last night at the lodger, I had to park a quarter mail away next to a bar filled with drunks. To top it off, when I got to my room this last night, I found a note saying that I should have checked out that day, and that I owed for another night. We finally straighten it out, but it was not thanks to the management. Oh, the one thing they do have is noise. Most of it comes from the bars on Hana Road. The walls are so thin that you can hear every thing going on. Let me tell you about the love life of the couple upstairs. Never again.

Better and cheaper hotels in Lihue
This is right in the center of Paia. It is only couple hundred feet away from Paia Inn. For the price of the lodge, I would have rather have stayed in Lihue for over 1/2 the price. (It is only six miles away.) Or I would have spent a little more money to stay next to Mama's Fish House. This place reminded of a lodge in the middle of nowhere, but in the middle of the city. I really don't want to write any more because writing about this place makes me more upset about paying so much for this place. If it were half the price that I paid then I probably would have no problem with this place.

If you like youth hostels this is your place.
If you're traveling on a budget and don't care about the room then this is the place for you. There are only two hotels in Paia anyway! BUT if you are looking for a cozy bed, comfort, and a bathroom with a door on it this is definitely not the place for you. The price was extremely affordable and probably perfect for young travellers. Although we didn't plan on spending alot of time in our room, it would have been nice to lie down in a bed that was actually long enough to accomodate a 5'8" person at the end of the night. This is pretty much self serve, although I will say the staff is super nice and responsive.

Beatiful gem on the northshore of maui
I live away from my home for over 150 days a year. I have been vacationing in the hawaiian islands for over 15 years... I first stayed in the nalu kai lodge about 4 years ago.....the staff and the lodge are great and i consider it one of my homes away from home... I have stayed at all the large chain hotels and all the luxury hotels like the ritz carlton , four seasons, shangrila, and mandarin oriental and if they were all in paia i would still stay at the nalu kai because of the great staff and the equally great guests you meet there... Right in the heart of paia walk to tons of great restaurants and shops and also in the heart of the best kitesurfing, windsurfing,surfing, sunning beaces in all of hawaii

Before we chose this hotel we did review the posted comments made by previous guests. Whoever mentioned that the walls are paper thin - well let's just say, their comment was 'bang on', so to speak. There was no TV in our room, and there certainly is no need to subscribe to adult channels. There are no secrets in this place. As a hotel, it was quite acceptable.

perfect litte getaway spot
we absolutely loved this place. it's tucked away, private, quiet and beautiful. the room was perfectly charming- just what we needed. and it allowed us to enjoy paia without a car. can't wait to go back!

Perfect Room
This adorable little place was so well kept and clearly well loved by it's owners and possibly the staff. The room was lovely and super clean. The bathroom tile was my favorite part actually...little comfortable pebble stones on the bathroom floor & the floor of the shower. There was handmade soap & a very nice little refrigerator to keep things cool. Even after I checked out, the laundry girls kept an eye on my luggage so I could shop in town before meeting up with my party... now that's the aloha spirit ! Mahalo !

Marvelous Stay
On short notice the owners of this Lodge found us a spot to stay in a small home about 1/2 mile away. It was clean as a whistle, easy to get to and perfect for our few days stay. Although we never met or saw the owner/employee they did a marvelous job of directing us to this hidden spot over the telephone.

Zero Nalu Kai Lodge personnel during our entire 3 day stay!
We intially chose this property because it looked nice from the photos. We were notified ahead of time to "contact the Nalu Kai Lodge for special instructions". A day before our arrival, I called several times and tried to get ahold of someone and only got a voicemail stating they return calls. I never received a return call. The day of check in I called again, with no response. We decided to head toward Paia and check in. When reaching the town, my travel partner called again and reached a live person. The woman said to check the chalk board for our name and room number and proceed to our open room. Inside our very small room (smaller than the photo looks) was a binder with property instructions and our key. During our 3 day stay, we never saw one person working for the Nalu Kai Lodge. No Front desk to check in/out, No housekeeping. Zero personnel. In the binder they did leave a phone number to contact in case of emergency. The room we stayed in was next to the road and there was a warning that on Monday the trash comes and is loud. To our surprise, the trash truck came Monday and then again on Tuesday morning at 4:30am! Good thing it was check out day and we could sleep on the plane. Although the photo's show the ocean in the background, there is no quick access to the beach. Access is through main street and at the state park.
