This shot was taken from the town's boardwalk while looking West over the sounds. It is advisable to visit the location in Winter as that is off season - so you can spend more time taking in the beauty of the North Carolina coastline and also sunsets are usually much more picturesque around the time owing to the cooler temperatures and lower amount of atmospheric haze. Plenty of things around Duck to see. Further north, there is the Currituck Lighthouse where you can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse. North of Corolla, there is an area where you can drive along the coast on the sand - 4X4s a must. Here you can spot some Spanish Mustangs, horses out in the wild. If you're lucky, you can spot them running along the beach in the surf. I'd recommend taking a tour through the Corolla Wild Horse Fund - the money from the tours is used to help the wild horses in every which way possible and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. We had 4 families (14 total - 8 adults, 6 kids) and no one felt on top of each other. The kitchen was well-stocked with pots, pans, glasses etc. The dining table fit all of us comfortably, which is hard to find! The pool was clean, there was plenty of outdoor seating, and the pool table was a hit. A lot of fishing was done off the private dock! Second floor AC wasnt great but we were there during one of the hottest weeks in the summer. Thoroughly enjoyed the pool and backyard amenities. Additionally, there was a red ant problem on the pool deck, and deflated rafts had been left lying around, making the outdoor area feel neglected.The surrounding neighborhood was also concerning. Many nearby houses appeared abandoned, and the property directly next door was in poor condition, with a covered pool filled with dark, stagnant water. Large black birds and vultures were gathered in the yard, which added to the unsettling atmosphere.Most troubling was the house next door, which had no visible power. However, we noticed flashlights inside at night, suggesting that squatters or someone else may have been staying there.
