"Crab House" is a pet friendly, oceanfront Outer Banks vacation rental home that was been fully renovated to provide large living areas. This great oceanfront property is located at 4123 North Virginia Dare Trail in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina at Mile Post 3 3/4.
There is an extra-large oceanfront deck with deck chairs and exceptional, expansive ocean views. House features large open great room area with dining space for 10 people. New kitchen with all new appliances. This home is elevated but offers one level living .
On the oceanfront side of this home, there are 2 Bedrooms and 1 full bath. Bedroom #1 has a Queen Bed; Bedroom #2 has a Queen bed for exceptional ocean views. Bedroom #3 has 1 Single bed and 1 double bed and Bedroom #4 has 1 Single Bed and 1 Double Bed on the street side of home. New laundry room has been added with new appliances. This is the perfect beach family vacation home where DOGS ARE PERMITTED-2 PET MAXIMUM. Pet fee is $250 per pet. The turnover day for this home is Saturday.
Extras: 5 TVs, 4 Parking Spaces, charcoal grill, enclosed outside shower, ceiling fans, washer/dryer, internet, deck furniture, 6 ceiling fans, lobster pot and iron/ironing board.

  • One of the northernmost towns along the coast in North Carolina, Duck is an idyllic town on the shores of the Currituck Sound. This shot was taken from the town's boardwalk while looking West over the sounds. It is advisable to visit the location in Winter as that is off season - so you can spend more time taking in the beauty of the North Carolina coastline and also sunsets are usually much more picturesque around the time owing to the cooler temperatures and lower amount of atmospheric haze. Plenty of things around Duck to see. Further north, there is the Currituck Lighthouse where you can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse. North of Corolla, there is an area where you can drive along the coast on the sand - 4X4s a must. Here you can spot some Spanish Mustangs, horses out in the wild. If you're lucky, you can spot them running along the beach in the surf. I'd recommend taking a tour through the Corolla Wild Horse Fund - the money from the tours is used to help the wild horses in every which way possible and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. One of the Best on the Beach!

Our whole crew gave this property a 10/10. It was the perfect setup for two families. The house was super clean, the kitchen was very well-stocked, and the furniture was comfortable. Outside, the deck can't be beat -- plenty of seating and right on the beach. And the beach in front was empty since there was no public beach access nearby. The location is perfect, as it's close to shopping, dining, and all the fun beach activities available in OBX. Terry is a very nice person who was very responsive to any questions we had. Can't wait to go back!

Great Visit!

Could not ask for a better location...close to the action but still private and quiet. Very clean, very comfortable. Advice is to bring tp, trash bags, paper towels, laundry materials (detergent, fabric softener). House had hand soap, dishwasher cubes, nice patio/beach toys situation, kitchen had all the materials we needed. Loved the big kitchen table. Would love some more towel hooks in bathrooms. The perfect house

This house was perfect for us. You are close to the grocery stores and restaurants of Kitty Hawk, but you'd never know it once you get to the house. The layout of the house is great and it is right on a private section of beach. The back porch has unobstructed views of the beach over the sand dunes. The color of the house was helpful when we took long beach walks - we knew exactly which house was ours! We hated to leave and hope to go back soon.

The perfect spot!

We had such a great time at Terry’s house, this location was perfect for our group! Everything is close by, but when we were at the house, we felt as though we had our own private beach! I took my parents on this trip with us, they are both in their 60s with mild mobility issues, and they were easily able to get up the stairs and around the house. That was important for us. The house was spacious, much more than can be seen in the pictures. We had everything we needed to prepare meals, and the AC kept us plenty cool when sun was blazing just a little too hot for us. I highly recommend the Crab House if you are looking for the perfect stay in Kitty Hawk :)

We had a very nice stay here at The Crabs house. It was very comfortably and clean. The location was perfect as the ocean is literally your backyard. There’s a lot to do in the area with families. Super convenient to all the stores you would need along with your choice of many ice cream places. We ate at the Bad Bean Baja grille which was amazing food (recommended by the host). We had a great time at the Waterpark and rented a boat to fish the sound. Lots of great memories. Thank you

Loved our stay at the Crab House

You can't beat the location! The house was clean and had everything we needed. The only con is what many reviews mentioned, the AC unit didn't keep it cool enough. I would not going during the hottest months of the summer. Luckily we had great weather with temps no higher than 80 and the lows in the mid 60's to 70. If I was just sitting under one of the ceiling fans in the living room it was comfortable. The kitchen was warm while you were cooking. I think a ceiling fan in there would help. The bedrooms were never really comfortable and the ceiling fan in my room only had one speed. The unit is set to 72 and you can't turn in down. But if you want a peaceful spot on the beach, you can't beat the location!

Absolutely stunning property. Everything you need for a beach vacation

Our stay at this beach house was absolutely incredible. We felt right at home as soon as we opened up the front door. Plenty of space in the kitchen, washer and dryer, plenty of beds, 2 bathrooms, Great space on the deck and just a couple steps to the beach. I would highly recommend this property to anybody looking in the area.

Wonderful stay, great beachfront location (but wish the Wi-Fi was better)

Overall, a great house and a lovely stay. The location is great. Being beachfront was so nice, the views were gorgeous and it was so easy to get to and from the beach each day. In past years of visiting the Outer Banks, we have stayed near the beach, but a short walk away from a beach access (ex. across the street). Especially with young kids, the convenience of being right on the beach makes a huge difference! And at night we could have a glass of wine on the deck after the kids went to bed and listen to the waves (and the first few nights we had a great view of the moon over the water), which was perfect. The house was very clean and updated and the kitchen was well equipped. The only complaint is that the Wi-Fi is not very good. My husband had to do some work while on the trip and had to use a mobile hotspot from his phone at times to get things to load (and if the kids were watching their tablets, they had to mostly just watch things that were pre-downloaded). The West-facing (street-facing) bedrooms also are rather warm, especially at night once the doors are closed. Even though the AC is set to 72 (the lowest it could go) and the fans in the room were on, our baby monitor showed the actual temp in those rooms as 76-78. But the kids seemed ok with it, so it wasn't a big deal. Overall, though, a great stay!

Beach front sets your soul free

Wonderful stay. Our time in this home was pure perfection! The location is amazing! Beach front in kitty hawk. House is well kept and has all the comfort you need. The view of the ocean from your bed as you wake is breathtaking. Communication with the host was amazing! If I had to give “even better if” feedback, then I will be nit-picky and say that the internet (but the beach!) is on the slower side and hot sand on the path (wear your flips on the walk down/up or you will have hot feet). We will be back!

Ideal family vacation spot

This was our first trip to the OBX and it did not disappoint! The house provided easy access to the beach to come and go as we pleased and the beach was not crowded at this location. We enjoyed beautiful sunrises from the deck every morning. The house offered all amenities needed for two families with young children and is centrally located for easy access to other parts of OBX. Terry, the host, was most accommodating and very responsive, ensuring a smooth stay. We would definitely come back for another stay!

Nice Home, Unprofessional Host

The positive is, our kids had a blast, the house is wonderful, and is in a great location consistent with previous reviews. The host, however, was dishonest and stole from us as we paid everything in advance, including the pet fee. The host was very clear via VRBO message that she would refund the fee if we were not planning to bring the dog. We messaged her prior to the trip that the dog was staying home. When we asked for the pet fee back after the trip, she stated “I am not refunding anything; I could have ruined your wedding.” She even hung up on the VRBO representative who had all the documentation when they attempted to contact her about the refund. She also has tried to place a claim on our deposit stating that we were “over occupying the home”, which we were not as we only had the limit of 10 people staying there. Our family had rented beach houses all within walking distance for a family gathering for a small ceremony on the beach. One of the other homes even being from the same host, which the host was well aware of and acknowledged via text. Our ceremony was on the beach like many others who have reviewed this home, and included 15 other family members from two neighboring beach homes (a total of 25 – which I accidentally ordered extra chairs) and the host stated that the occupancy extended to people on the beach; therefore we had violated our agreement and should not receive our deposit or pet fee back. Overall we were highly respectful of the home. We did bring all of our own plastic/paper dishware and plastic ware, aluminum pans and such. We deep cleaned the home daily, fixed her dryer which had sand from previous renters because it was unusable, and kindly left additional paper towels, toilet papers and items to be used for future tenants. We found the host to be both unprofessional and invasive as she decided to attend the wedding on the dune by the home (we have pictures) and would holler passive aggressive comments at my family if they decided to come over to say hi and/or bye, in particular one was simply coming by to say good-bye as they were leaving for the airport. There are outdoor cameras on the property that would show there was never a pet on the property during our stay there.
