This is a beautiful old property with a lovely yard and views. It is also located near the bus stop, trails to the lake and nearby forest. The host, Karen, is very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. The breakfast was delicious!
It was like stepping back in time as premises dated back to Tudor times.
The views were fantastic.
The owner looked after us very well, with plenty of cake & a good hearty breakfast.
It was very beautiful and peaceful, beautiful accommodation. Good WiFi, and breakfast perfect. The lady of the house was very friendly and helpful. Very happy 10/10.
If you crave staying in a quiet, away from crowds, completely authentic and historical place, this is it. It is an Elizabethan era farm house and grounds. Keren will look after you. It has access to trails nearby. Cooked breakfast served daily and the eggs are from the chickens on site. You'll need a vehicle or be able to take a bus out there - it's not in downtown Keswick. You'll need to travel a bit for lunch and dinner. And I think that is it's greatest advantage, it's a wonderful refuge from busy daily life.
I had a wonderful stay at Powter Howe, a real treat. The room and bathroom were immaculately cleaned and well kept and the host is a gem who cooks the best breakfast which includes lovely free range eggs from her own hens. Waking up in the morning to the view over a beautiful garden beyond the lake to Skiddaw was an extra treat as each morning there was a new ever changing Lake District vista. I'll definitely be back!
The lady owner was friendly and lovely from the moment I arrived.
I was made to feel very welcome and was even treated to a plate of home made biscuits.
The bed was comfy and I had an amazing night's sleep.
Breakfast was served at a time that was convenient to me and everything was very fresh. The bread and jam were also home made.
The property is in a very quiet location and in lovely gardens and provides a great place to stay during a visit to the lake district.

It was such a beautiful house and room. I loved the uniqueness and traditional style to it. The lady made me feel very welcome and was very helpful and friendly. Would absolutely recommend this to anyone who enjoys something different to a regular, boring hotel. Thank you so much
This was the most incredible stay I could have asked for! The breakfast was lovely, the home felt very cozy, and she had the fire lit every evening for a warm and welcoming sitting area. The only thing I would say is, as a Uni student with no car, plan with bus routes! They only come around every hour, and the BnB is a bit remote. A lovely view of the lake, the gardens, the chickens, and the neighbors sheep! I will absolutely come here again :)
Beautiful, warm, clean, friendly - this place is packed full of charm and original features couldn't have asked for a better place to stay - thank you.
A beautiful location, very peaceful and a welcoming host who was very attentive. A lovely spacious bedroom, great bathroom. Breakfast was substantial and I enjoyed the short walk down to the lake, along with the gardens which added to the vibe, along with the hens! Thanks again for a wonderful stay.
This is a wonderful place to stay with a very warm welcome. It's a very comfortable family home with excellent views across Bassenthwaite Lake to Skiddaw, comfortable bed, a very filling full English breakfast (also with cereal and toast), very quiet, a short walk to the lake side, at the foot of Whinlatter Forest and close to a bus stop for the X5 to Keswick or the Workington direction. Parking is next to the house.

Karen is a brilliant hostess. She welcomes you into her beautiful historic, unbelievably cosy home, some of which dates back to the days of Tudor. The rooms are spotlessly clean and warm. The full English breakfast is substantial and very tasty. It is well posted, being only a 5 minute walk from the lakeside and a two minute walk from the bus stop to Keswick or Workington. I will definitely be going back.
