Secluded & Laidback Seaside Retreat Hanalei Colony Resort J3 is a tranquil, off-the-beaten-path retreat on Kaua'i's far North Shore, perfect for those seeking a peaceful escape surrounded by natural beauty! This charming, vintage-style condo features two bedrooms, with the option to use the second bedroom to sleep a third guest or as a remote office, a fully appointed kitchen, and a light-filled living and dining area that opens to breathtaking ocean views. You'll find another sleeper sofa in the living room, allowing you to comfortably accommodate up to four guests. The shaded balcony lanai offers outdoor seating for 2, and the perfect spot to take in an island sunrise with your morning coffee! Please note, the bedrooms are separated from the main living space by sliding shoji screens, offering visual privacy but not soundproofing. The amenities at Hanalei Colony Resort make this the perfect spot for a slow-paced vacation. Walk just a few steps and you're right on a warm, sandy beach away from any crowds! You can walk along the golden sands until you come to the end of the road at Ke'e Beach, or you can spend a day by the pool and hot tub, lounging in the sun and grilling in the outdoor kitchen. If you need to truly unwind and pamper yourself, the Hanalei Day Spa is just across the parking lot and offers some incredible services (can you say beachside couple's massage?). You'll also find the Gaia restaurant on site for some tasty seaside bites, as well as the Na Pali Art Gallery & Coffee Shop where you can peruse beautiful local art and jewelry while enjoying a morning brew. For those of us that like to get out and about, Hanalei Colony Resort is still close to many attractions. Take a quick 15 minute drive and you're in the heart of Hanalei town, with its charming boutiques, restaurants, and cafes. Grab a bite to eat or a shave ice before heading to the iconic beaches of Hanalei Bay for the day. Tunnels Beach, perfect for snorkeling, is only 3 minutes away driving, or 20 minutes on foot if you prefer to hoof it. Ha'ena Beach is just another 3 minutes down the road, and is a hidden gem with pristine waters and incredible sunsets. You're also just 10 minutes away from the Limahuli Gardens & Preserve, which offer an introduction into native Hawaiian culture and its ties to the natural landscape, against a backdrop of dramatic mountains and the Pacific Ocean. For any basic grocery needs, as well as delicious sandwiches, acai bowls, coffee, and shave ice, head 3 minutes down the road to the Wainiha Country Market. You'll also find a lovely selection of local goodies you won't be able to resist! Please note that Hanalei Colony Resort was built in simpler times in a more remote location. The resort was designed with the untouched environment as the main draw, and does not offer all the luxuries of modern resorts. There is no dishwasher and no TV in the unit (although there is Wi-Fi), and it takes longer to access the rest of the island. Drive time to Princeville and Kilauea is roughly 30 minutes, to the East Side (where the airport is) is 70 minutes, and to the South Shore is over 90 minutes. We highly recommend renting a car, as third party guests are unfortunately NOT able to use the resort shuttle services. We do, however, encourage guests to take advantage of the North Shore Shuttle, which services locations such as the Wainiha Country Market, Limahuli Gardens, and Ha'ena State Park. The shuttle will pick you up right in the parking lot of Hanalei Colony Resort (super convenient!), and advance reservations are required. This is an upstairs unit. You must be able to go up and down 2.5 flights of stairs (roughly 25 steps) to access the unit. There are no elevators. As with most homes on Kauai, this vacation rental is NOT air conditioned, however there are ceiling fans in each space to help with air flow. Although this home has internet, the speed and reliability cannot be guaranteed due to the remote location and the service being provided by a third-party. Although there was no AC, the ceiling fans were very good circulating air. The bed was comfortable. The remote location is a good setting. Pool area redone and very nice. Restaurant was closed. Spacious, great floor plan (the “rooms” are on opposite sides), plenty of sitting room all with direct views of the ocean. The kitchen was well stocked for a family that likes to cook. Plenty of towels and a ton of beach equipment for our family of three. Ashley quick walk to the beach area to the left, was better snorkeling than Tunnels Beach. Hanalei Bay is about a 10 minute drive and it had fantastic food, shopping, lots of boutiques, and plenty of rentals for the day. Others commented that the condo was outdated. It was one of the original resorts on that end of the island. I’m thankful it hasn’t been updated to today’s modern style. I would lose the local island charm, and the prices would double! They only updates that would be nice. Would be new beach chairs. Fantastic location with close proximity to Tunnels Beach, Haena SP, Napali SP, and the town of Hanalei. A storm came in and we lost power off and on which made it difficult to cook or charge phones. Also the condo is remote and so there were concerns we could be stranded if bridge went out. The remoteness also made it nice because there were no crowds or lines. Just know that to get to a town it’s an15 min drove. ##### Steve W. If you're not into salt spray or the sound of the ocean, you might go elsewhere, but there's no better complex on the northshore if you want to get close to the ocean action. Staff was helpful in the check-in process, and we didn't need anything during our stay. The louver dividers and kitchen bar could use some attention, but it must be a chore to stay ahead of the salt in the air from being so close to the surf. Our unit was clean and also difficult to see out windows due to humidity, and salt build up (which I imagine is difficult to combat due to location). Woke up to the most amazing sunrises each morning. Walked for miles along the shore each day..this is a place that is simple and quite breathtaking. The accomodation had really patchy wifi, no tv, no aircon and no dishwasher but none of that mattered because it was such an opportunity to unplug and just watch the beauty around you. Beds were comfortable, place was spotless and the restaurant on the property was fabulous. Hosts were wonderfully responsive and we had a fantastic few days. ##### Donna C. This was a wonderful location I haven't tried before but really enjoyed. Access to the beach was wonderful. The Kalalau trail is my favorite and very nearby. It is advertised as 2 bedroom 2 bath. The reality is that it is 1 bedroom with a queen bed and another room with a pull out sofa plus 1 1/2 baths. Otherwise the second floor condo has a beautiful view of the ocean, it is quite a walk from the parking lot to the condo but they do have wagons to use to move you stuff from the car to the unit. the condo was well equipped with kitchen items and boogie boards.
