O Castelo de Guimarães começou por um mosteiro mandado construir por Mumadona Dias no século X, antes, portanto, da formação de Portugal. Como os ataques dos mouros eram frequentes decidiram construir uma muralha para proteger a comunidade e os monges que viviam no seu interior. Foi esta fortaleza que deu origem ao Castelo de Guimarães. Mais tarde, no século XII, foi neste castelo que nasceu Dom Afonso Henriques que viria a ser o primeiro rei de Portugal. Com a falta de uso o castelo foi-se degradando. Recentemente foi recuperado e classificado como Monumento Nacional. É também considerado Patrimônio Mundial pela UNESCO. Um lugar cheio de história e que foi berço de Portugal. Não é à toa que em um pedaço da muralha original tem os dizeres “Aqui nasceu Portugal”.

The Castle of Guimarães began with a monastery built by Mumadona Dias in the 10th century, before, therefore, the formation of Portugal. As the attacks of the Moors were frequent they decided to build a wall to protect the community and the monks that lived inside. It was this fort that gave origin to the Castle of Guimarães. Later, in the twelfth century, it was in this castle that Dom Afonso Henriques was born. Some years after he would become the first king of Portugal. With the lack of use the castle was degrading. Recently it was recovered and classified as National Monument. It is also considered World Heritage by UNESCO. A place full of history and that was cradle of Portugal. "I stayed one night at this hotel in Porto. At first glance, both the hotel and the room look very nice, and this impression was confirmed upon arrival. However, several important issues significantly affected my experience. First of all, cleanliness was clearly lacking. It felt like the room had not been properly cleaned: there was dust almost everywhere, visible marks on the walls and on the trash bin, as well as signs of mold in some hidden areas. The most problematic point was the bathroom. When taking a shower, the water did not drain properly, and the floor drain seemed clogged with a significant buildup of dirt, which was very unpleasant. In addition, the shower head was in poor condition. Finally, the sound insulation is not adequate. A lot of outside noise could be heard, which negatively impacted comfort and rest. Overall, the hotel has real potential in terms of design and appearance, but significant improvements are needed regarding cleanliness, maintenance, and facilities to meet expectations."

"It was a very bad experience in my 30 years traveling . It was especially bad in the housekeeper department. The cleaning staff who did our room has no training at all. 1\. When we came back to our room in the end of the 1st day, all dirty cups were not cleaned or replaced. No new coffee capsules were filled. No new water bottle was replaced. The towels were changed, but missing one. The sink still had toothpaste stain on. 2\. Our friend’s room had no new bath tissue added . The leftover from last day was not enough so had to run to downstairs to ask because there was no housekeeper phone number to dial. 3\. We asked for two separated twin beds. One comforter was folded king size. The other is twin comforter. One of us was did not sleep well because was too hot. We asked to change when we realized that was a wrong comforter. I only can say the staff was too lazy to get another right comforter for the twin bed set up. I don’t want judge whether this hotel qualify 5 state. They even lack of very basic services. After I complained to the front desk (I actually wanted to speak with the manager on duty. I was told not available and they will covey it to manager). I neither heard from the manager nor any sincere apology since then."
