Visited in March 2023, our 2nd trip to North Captiva. The island was rebuilding and cleaning up from Hurricane Ian, but the charm of the island still shines through.
The property was underwhelming: clean overall, but nothing was very appealing. Everything had a worn, slightly out of date quality.
The manager was always available by phone, but I had to call him often about issues. Most vacation rentals we have visited send a welcome email and/or a sheet of info/instructions about the house, such as WiFi passwords, etc. We never received any of this and it would have saved us trying to figure out things on our own and having to call the manager.
We had several problems during our stay. Half of the kitchen sink clogged and although someone was supposed to come fix it, no one ever did. So we spent 2/3 of our vacation with regurgitated food and from the garbage disposal in half the sink. Yuck. We went to grill the first night and the propane tank was empty. The manager offered to provide transportation and luggage service from the property to the ferry on the day of our departure. But the person taking us was 20 minutes late and we almost missed our ferry. The owner arranged for a showing of the house during our vacation, which our group found odd and unprofessional.
The house could have been a nice vacation spot on a jewel of an island with a little effort, but it seems like the owner is not interested in doing the things that make a vacation special and guests feel welcome.
