Fox Run Ocean Cottage

  • Within 25 minutes of one of the most beautiful national parks in the country lies Fox Run Cottage. Unique in its design, it allows guests to spread out and have their own individual space while enjoying a week away along a stretch of Maine coast that hasn’t changed in decades.

    One of the few properties in the area with an expansive lawn, you’ll be spending your time a few steps away from your own private sand and pea gravel beach. Whether your plans include exploring the park every day or relaxing at the cottage, this property affords all the comforts of home with the accessibility to one of the premier vacation areas in New England.

    This beautiful 3bedroom 3 bathroom home was recently renovated with lots of thoughtful updates to make it comfortable for a week on the shore. With its relaxed, coastal vibe and sweeping ocean views, we hope you will find it relaxing and inviting. Off a large entry hallway on the first floor, a queen-sized suite with a large living room and adjacent bath looks out over the patio and down to the beach.

    The second floor features a large, open concept living space. A sizable living room gives expansive views of the bay, and a fully - equipped kitchen opens to a large dining area. The living and dining spaces open into a queen bedroom and bath on one end, and a king suite with walk-in closet and bath on the other. There is also a dedicated separate laundry space with full-sized stackable washer and dryer.

    Bring your paddle board, kayak, and snorkel, as your direct beach access allows you to launch right into the calm waters of the bay. Watch the seals, osprey, and eagles from the seating areas on the patio, from the living room couches and balcony, or while lying in bed. The property faces southwest, and sunsets are equally beautiful from almost every room in the house.

    Walk the beach, explore the park, dine at a local lobster pounds or in one of Bar Harbor’s many excellent restaurants, or simply relax on the patio in front of a bonfire and watch the stars. We hope you enjoy our little slice of heaven as much as we do.

We had a lovely stay with 3 adult couples. Each bedroom has it’s own bath and are in different areas of the house allowing for a great deal of privacy. The sunsets were unreal. We made a fire every night. The house is a great location for exploring Acadia and beyond.

The setting of this home is really beautiful, right on the water. It took us about 25 min to drive to the Acadia visitors center, and 15 minutes to go up into Ellsworth or other local places for groceries or food options. We spent our days hiking and evenings mostly home and on the couch. We found the home had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

Cottage bear Acadia

Very nice home on the water with a spacious grassy area and easy access to the water to kayak. Very clean, comfortable beds, plenty of dishes for a large group, plenty of towels.

The location couldn’t be better - it’s directly on the beach and only a short drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor. It’s surprisingly spacious with a fantastic balcony and patio with sunset and ocean views. Nice firepit. Loved seeing deer and wild turkey in the driveway. Beautiful west-/ocean- facing windows along the entire upstairs. The only reason we gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is that those gorgeous windows (mostly) don’t have shades, which combined with the lack of functional air conditioning anywhere except master bedroom meant that the house was 80 degrees inside each afternoon and evening during our mid June stay. Other than that it was perfect.

Great Beach Cottage

Spacious, comfortable, and clean cottage right on the beach. Really good location, easy trip to Bar Harbor or Acadia and plenty of places to eat and shop for food in nearby Elllsworth. Hosts are very responsive and have a lot of great tips. Once of the best homes we have rented.

Fox Run Ocean Cottage was a beautiful place to stay. It had a wonderful ocean view. It was very clam and peaceful. The house is very convenient to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. There is enough room and space for many people. We loved the sunsets every evening. The host was very responsive to any questions that we had . We throughly enjoyed our visit to this woodsy, charming ,ocean view cottage!

Great location and plenty of space

House was nice and clean. Comfy beds and well stocked kitchen. Property manager gave us great recommendations for restaurants and kayaks, which we loved. Beautiful beach location that was so peaceful and only 15-20 minutes to Acadia. Close but not so close you have to battle the crowds and traffic. Great get away location.

This is truly a beautiful spot. The first day we had a lot of wind but the rest of the week the water was smooth and the spot was beautiful. Stunning sunsets. One late afternoon we saw harbour porpoises. Unfortunately the home is in need of a deep clean and refresh. When we arrived I had to do some light cleaning which is disappointing. We did not think the sheets were clean on any of the beds. I also reached out to the host twice and didn’t hear back. There was nothing urgent so it was fine. It felt to us like this is a home for sale that was probably once a fabulous rental, but the owner is trying to now unload the home. It was also thirty minutes to the park and anywhere we really wanted to go so I would advise to stay closer to the park if that’s your plan. All in all it’s a pretty place but not worth the price point. I hesitate to write reviews like this but I rely on reviews. I wish the owners all the best.

Excellent Location and Setup

This is our second time staying here, the property is well located near MDI / Acadia. The huge yard is great for kids with the beach just a few steps beyond the grass, the fire pit and patio area are fantastic for dinner outside and smores or just watching the spectacular sunset. The home has plenty of space, is well maintained and has everything you need. We will certainly be back.

This place is stocked with EVERYTHING you might need and more. Fantastic location right on the water. We really enjoyed the fire pit. Very convenient location for Bar Harbor and Acadia, but also away from all the crowds and people. THANK YOU!!

Picture perfect sunsets

The house is clean, well stocked, and very comfortable, and steps away from the beach where we enjoyed kayaking and collecting sea glass. We made use of the fire pit in the evenings to roast marshmallows and sweet potatoes. But our favorite part of the stay was the spectacular sunsets each evening, bidding us good night. Thanks for a lovely week on Union River Bay.

Fantastic!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. The home was an easy drive to all parts of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. It was lovely to return in the evening to the quiet and tremendous view. The home was well appointed with necessities and even extras, and we were able to easily prepare meals. We appreciated the homeowner sharing recommendations for area restaurants and stores so we could plan accordingly. We would highly recommend this property to anyone considering a stay in the area!

We landed on Fox Run Cottage while planning our trip and based on the listing and other reviews found it to have the amenities our family needed. Unfortunately, when we arrived just after 4pm we found the home had not been cleaned after the previous guests' departure and found dirty linens in all bedrooms and bathrooms and the kitchen and other rooms had not been cleaned. This was even after reaching out to Scott earlier in the afternoon to see if early check-in was possible. At that time I was not advised of any issue or possible delay for cleaning, nor was I notified at any time prior to our arrival. After calls and messages with Scott the cleaning team returned to the property and the house was cleaned to our satisfaction. Aside from our first impression this home is very conveniently located to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The bay setting is spectacular with amazing sunsets. Although we found very little seaglass on the beach, we did find many interesting rocks. The home was comfortable for a landing place for our family; however, we did not find it to be in the best shape overall. Despite the issues with the rental we had a great trip and enjoyed our favorite places in the area.

Wonderful Maine Escape

We loved everything about this stay! The house had everything we could possibly need and the views were amazing. It wasn’t too far from Acadia. Their lawn and beach was perfect! My kids loved playing yard games and looking for shells and sea glass on the beach. The hosts were super helpful and even left us a s’more kit that my 3 kids loved. I will definitely stay here again next time we come to Acadia.

End of Summer Family Getaway

This is a clean, spacious home on a beautiful piece of beachfront property. The large yard and outdoor areas are perfect for a family to enjoy cooking, eating, and hanging out by the shore. The location was easily accessible to spending several days in Acadia & Bar Harbor and provide a relaxing retreat at the end of the day. The Wifi was sufficient for several of us to work and do virtual classes at the same time. The kitchen is well stocked. Jo is responsive and a pleasure to communicate with.

Amazing Location and Experience

Jo's house was the perfect place for some best friends since high school to celebrate their 60th birthdays and over 45 years of friendship. We picked the perfect week for fall foliage colors and the most amazing sunsets at the property over Union River. We took full advantage of walks on the beach, the fire pit, and the kitchen as we enjoy cooking. We also explored the area, hiked in Acadia National Park, and enjoyed the scenery. The house is conveniently located away from the congestion around Bar Harbor, but easily accessible to Acadia and other sites. I highly recommend this property.
