Disappointing stay.
Check in was chaotic, with the reception being crowded; with a noisy pub ball machine taking over the area; residents accessing their own keys behind the desk. The room was tired and poor quality for the money. Noisy at night. We didn’t take breakfast here but found a lovely cafe called Henry’s.

Everything was great except there was no air-conditioning which meant a very hot, uncomfortable night’s sleep.

A headache
The hotel is very well located and it looks comfortable. The breakfast is great and the staff incredibly nice, gentle and accommodating. I arrived late on a Thursday and I had to self check-in with a code. Everything went very smoothly and the room was exactly was I needed. The day after, due to a minor problem in my room, I was kindly offered an upgrade to a better room, I happily accepted and I am still regret it. This new room was the 117 and it was haunted by a tedious and continuous hum through the whole night. The reception was closed and there was no one there to help me. It was impossible to stay in the room, let alone to sleep. I had to spend the whole night sitting in the bathroom, where the noise was less evident. I do not understand the reason why they would not keep a member of staff during the night to help with this kind of issues but I may guess it’s to avoid paying for it. The day after, yesterday, I was moody, tired and with a intense headache caused by the humming that I still have not managed to get rid of. I really felt like asking for a refund, but I didn’t have the strength for it and, besides, the staff was just lovely. Fellow traveler, do not accept by any chance any kind of upgrade to a new brand room. They do not know what they are offering. As a piece of advice to the management, I used to work in a hotel and the manager used to spend the night regularly in every new room the hotel offered, to check there were not unexpected noises.

A charming hotel with modern accommodations in an ideal location. The staff will go out of their way to please you (if you are a repeat visitor, you will recognize them, they have been working there for years). There is a new section with larger and more modern rooms, but the older section has more charm. A nice buffet breakfast with something for everyone.

Fantastic hotel - would not recommend the town
Lovely hotel, great service and large family room. Would absolutely recommend the hotel. Unfortunately the beautiful town of Tournai was spoilt by horrendous amounts of dog poo. No exaggeration there was dog poo everywhere. Starting from the hotel car park all through the town. It was difficult to look up at buildings and admire views because we had to keep looking at the pavement to check we weren’t standing in any. It was disgusting. There seemed to be no shame with locals just letting their dogs poo on pavements and even in the grassed area round the cathedral. Local people have much to be proud of as the town is lovely so it is a shame that it is spoilt in such a way. I’ve never experienced such a problem elsewhere on my travels.
