"The hotel is in a very tranquil, country setting but not far from Bilbao. It is an old house that has been beautifully restored in a rustic manner. The lady, who seemed to do everything, was very kind and helpful. My room was clean and comfortable with a very modern shower. The evening meal and breakfast were plentiful and good quality. The only negative thing was that there was no lift and the stairs were quite steep."

"The inn has been beautifully restored. Our room was lovely. We spent 24 days in Spain and stayed in 9 hotels. El Retiro Obispo was by far the best overall. It's exceptional, along with host Terri. She went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. She booked two very different but equally delicious winery tours and lunches for us when we asked for her help. "

It felt like home away from home, plus an amazing view that is somehow not obvious in the listing. They made it stay there so comfortable and you HAVE to have dinner there. They are fantastic cooks. "Second stay here on our journey back to UK from Portugal. Great place, clean, comfortable and the owner is a gentleman. Local restaurant was closed this time of year, which was a shame as it’s really good food and good value but the owner pointed us to a place about 9 km away and the food was good and dogs were welcome. "We had a great stay, with friendly and helpful hosts in this wonderful old casa surrounded by vineyards and gorgeous mountains. Our room was comfortable and there was a terrific sitting room with a view to the grape vines and vast open countryside. Amaya gave us lots of good advice for dining, visits, etc, and we enjoyed the friendly environment. There was plenty of parking, and wine tasting/hiking/dining adventures all nearby. We drove to Bilbao for a day--a bit of a longer trip than expected...
