Montegrande, Casa de Alta Montaña Rodeada de un Paisaje Idílico

10/10 Excellent
"Amazing place at the top of a very rural and quiet village. Stunning place to experience the 2026 solar eclipse!! We loved our stay and Mari was very hospitable, answering my many questions quickly and thoroughly. The home is comfortable and has good working WiFi and a washing machine. The community is friendly and helpful though not many people were around when we were there.A few things I wish I had known well in advance:1) It’s very important to bring a car that can handle narrow streets and steep inclines. It’s a tough area to drive in and we avoided going up and down as much as possible. 2) There are some very loud and aggressive dogs in the village, so watch after your children if traveling as a family. We only saw 5 other people in the Villa while we were there, you can plan to have a lot of solo time (and if anything were to go wrong you’d be on your own).3) There are no grocery stores nearby so plan ahead and bring food from Oviedo or Leon, or you’ll go hungry!! manolo’s at Paramo at the base of the mountain has an excellent restaurant where you can eat like royalty for 22 euros or less, though!4) Check for road closures…we got stuck in the village for a while because the road north was closed during the day. Plan well in advance!"

8/10 Good
"Beautiful property. Grounds & rooms aesthetically pleasing. Pool was nice & drinks were delicious. Not the most practical place - small kitchen with no dish cloth, pots/pans, dish soap. The property’s restaurant is closed Monday - Wednesday and there aren’t a lot of options for dining. We went to the grocery store since we couldn’t find a restaurant nearby w/availability until 9:30. You are limited with what you can prepare due to the lack of equipment. Just keep this in mind. Sofa cover dirty and needed to be washed, food residue from prior guests on table when we arrived."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Riolago?
The best area to stay in Riolago is the town centre, particularly around the Plaza Mayor and the streets immediately surrounding it.This central area is the heart of Riolago, offering a blend of historic charm and modern conveniences. You'll find a pedestrian-friendly layout with cobblestone streets, traditional Castilian architecture, and a selection of local shops, restaurants, and tapas bars. The Plaza Mayor itself is a beautiful open space, often bustling with activity, and it's surrounded by significant landmarks like the Church of San Pedro. For couples seeking a romantic and convenient base, staying close to the Plaza Mayor is ideal. You'll have easy access to charming dining experiences, opportunities for leisurely strolls through historic lanes, and the ability to visit the main sights without needing transport. Many boutique hotels in this area offer beautiful views and a refined experience.Families will also find the town centre highly suitable. The pedestrianised streets make it easy to navigate with children, and there are often small parks or open spaces nearby for them to enjoy.
When is the best time to go to Riolago?
The best time to go to Riolago is during the late spring (May to early June) and early autumn (September to early October) when the weather is pleasant for outdoor activities and the crowds are thinner.During late spring, the countryside around Riolago is lush and green, and the temperatures are mild, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C. This makes it ideal for exploring the natural parks and engaging in activities like hiking or cycling without the intense heat of summer. You'll find the local flora in full bloom, adding to the scenic beauty.Early autumn also offers comfortable temperatures, usually between 18°C and 28°C, and the landscape is painted with warm, earthy tones as the leaves begin to change. This period is great for those who enjoy walking through historic towns and vineyards without the peak season rush. Many local festivals celebrating the harvest often take place during this time, offering a glimpse into local traditions. While July and August are popular for their hot, sunny weather (often exceeding 30°C), they also bring larger crowds, especially to coastal areas within Castile and León. If you prefer a quieter experience and cooler temperatures for exploring, spring and autumn are more suitable.
