"Peaceful retreat in the forest:
This gorgeous 12 room modern hotel is an oasis of calm! Shuttle pick ip from Nagisu station or the end of the Nagasendo trail parking lot makes this hotel easily accessible for those who really want to get off of the beach track! The hotel is surrounded by greenery. It boasts an outstanding traditional restaurant with an incredible kaiseki set menu for dinner. Breakfast is also provided. Private rooms for dining are available. The beautiful onsen has outdoor wooden baths as well, allowing one to soak in nature, literally!"
"The hotel is excellent especially the hotel staff. Although we were late, the shuttle bus was still searching for us in the train station. He also led the tour for star watching at night and it was amazing.
The hotel is really traditional and the meal was so good. We loved the outdoor and private onsen. Environment was exceptional peaceful in the forest."
"A small but lovely hot spring onsite. Price was very reasonable.
Free breakfast was nice. Organic vegetables was a nice touch.
Room was serviceable but similar to a business hotel in size. One nice touch was tge large table and bench.
Nice for foreigners that there were English instructions throughout hotel. Air conditioning, and toilet had English.
Iida is a lovely city, I particularly like the apple Street. It must be lovely in apple season.
And senjojiki cirque is only 25 mins drive away.
Would definitely recommend."
"What a great find! Everything was outstanding: from check in to check out: super friendly and helpful staff, spotless place, very well organised, great food, plentiful breakfast,… I wish I had booked for an extra night. The whole family loved it!"
"Our experience with this hotel was overall good! Staff was kind and friendly, facilities were a little dated and the lighting inside the room needs updating, pure white light is not the most pleasant, however the traditional Japanese bedroom experience was very cool! Breakfast was also awesome! That alone made this experience super cool!"
The best area to stay in Nakagawa is the region surrounding the Tenryu River, particularly near the town's main facilities and attractions.
This area offers a good balance of accessibility and natural beauty, with various accommodation options ranging from traditional Japanese inns (ryokan) to modern hotels. The river itself is a focal point, known for its scenic gorges and boat tours. You'll find local shops and eateries scattered along the main roads, providing a sense of local life.
For couples seeking a relaxing retreat, staying in a ryokan along the Tenryu River is an excellent choice. Many of these accommodations offer private hot spring baths (onsen) with river views, providing a tranquil and romantic experience. They often include traditional multi-course dinners (kaiseki) featuring local ingredients, adding to the cultural experience.
Families will find that staying near the Tenryu River also offers convenient access to outdoor activities. Several parks and nature trails are easily reachable, providing opportunities for gentle hikes or picnics by the water.
