The Blackburn Inn and Conference Center

"The Blackburn Inn is a beautifully restored building with an interesting past. The hotel and Conference Center occupy two of several buildings on a large campus close to "downtown" Staunton. The other buildings are either in the process of being restored or are abandoned. Wandering around the grounds, the property felt creepy. That is for good reason. I learned after I checked in that the property was the Western State Hospital (asylum) for several decades and then was converted to a state prison. Remnants of the past still exist in some of the features of the building. Although my room was very clean, spacious and beautiful, I could not help but be a little afraid! The room was generally clean with the exception of my shower floor, which needed a good scrubbing or new tile all together. The staff was very nice. I did not have a chance to enjoy breakfast at the restaurant. I do recommend climbing the spiral staircase to the observation deck."

"We have stayed at the Gin many times and this stay was very good. The property, while historic, is well maintained and clean. I was concerned by some reviews but found everything to be well cared for. Our accessible room was large, spotlessly clean, had high ceilings, heavy woodwork, and a modern updated bath. The staff was polite and helpful. Breakfast is minimal and self-serve but was adequate for our needs."

"Stayed for a couple of nights while in town for a wedding. Clean and comfortable room. Had a 4th floor room; it was quiet even though it was close to the elevator. Friendly staff. Great coffee. Standard free breakfast. Easy and quick drive to the center of Lexington. I’d recommend staying here, I’d definitely stay again."

"I like that it is right off the highway but hidden from the road,beds are comfortable,lots of tv channels to watch there is a dining room near the lobby that has food and drinks. I was tired so did not get a chance too have something in dining area As far as food places around probably a 12 minute drive Which has A Krogers, and gas station there but there is also a Walmart 15 minute drive . I did not like having to go downstairs for something to drink and snack the candy was 3 dollars and teas three fifty I only bought it there because I forgot to pick it up while at grocery store. There is. Fridge and microwave which I Loved."

Beautiful new cabins mile off Blue Ridge Parkway in Montebello, VA

"We enjoyed our stay at Tybello Cabins. The unit was very clean and the kitchen was well equipped with the basics. Each unit features its own fire pit and the communal gas grills were in good shape. Our dogs enjoyed the running water on the property, and we enjoyed hearing the water flow throughout our stay. There are some great hikes near by and you are right off the Blue Ridge Parkway, with plenty of scenic overlooks. We really enjoyed swimming at Sherando lake, but like just about everything in that area it was 30 or so minutes away."
