This is a tricky review to write because there is so much right with this property. It is as described and the pictures are accurate. It’s likely the nicest house in the area. It is clean and the owner is very responsive. But: Bugs in kitchen with no remedy when reported. Feral cat fell through screen in lanai. MBR sink didn’t drain. Beyond host’s control but relevant is how dark the house is, and noisy the area: loud with traffic and barking dogs which prevent the use of the lovely patio as well as the ability to enjoy a fresh breeze with open doors. The neighbourhood is, sadly, impoverished. Stray dogs and cats roam and leave their waste. The “3 blocks to beach” are littered with garbage and animal waste; the beach is unacceptable for sunbathing or swimming. No cafes or shops nearby. A big issue for us is no hot running water in kitchen. We had to boil water on the stove to properly wash dishes. I didn’t consider this safe. It’s indeed an inconvenience. After our initial shock at the neighbourhood, we thought we could tough it out for our two-month stay, but by day 2 we knew we could not. The host had agreed to an approximately 25% refund (of our outlay) which is not required of her, but in the end she didn’t pay. Twice we took Uber to return key and collect refund and twice she refused. VRBO was sympathetic enough to give us a partial refund. I feel compelled to share that this location is a challenge for us, and not what anyone would want for their hard-earned vacation .

House was clean and comfortable. A/C in every bedroom and the living room. You can catch the bus into town right outside. It's a short walk to the beach. The owner was very nice and helpful. We enjoyed our stay.

Best place to stay in Progreso

Everything was so clean, comfortable, and beautiful as it all matcged what was listed. The owner and her family was absolutely amazing and they spoke English...I am staying here every time I visit Progreso...Big shout out and thank you...This was a very convenient place to stay and YES you can walk to the beach it was beautiful.

My two teenaged sons and I stayed for 2 weeks at the end of a sizzling hot and humid summer. The place was like an oasis of cool comfort and convenience. Just a couple blocks from the beach. Right in the middle of REAL Mexican life. The barrio was a bit confusing to navigate for a minute…but the welcoming and gracious people of Nuevo Yucalpetén made us feel right at home! We made new friends and explored the Progreso area extensively for pennies on the local bus. 8,50 pesos only for the ride to the center of town! If, like us, you enjoy travelling to experience new things and actually disconnection from your usual day-to-day environment…THIS is the place for you! Wendy is an absolute sweetheart and she will be available and responsive to your questions and is always ready to help you acclimate to the area. 5⭐️ AAA Thank you so much for your hospitality Wendy, Tia and Tio!! 🙏🙏🙏

Busy noisey street

The house overal was very comfortable. However, it is located on a very noisey, trafic busey street. It was very handy that the bus actually stopped at our doorstep. There seemed to be no speed limites on our street. The next door people had several dogs that barked most of the night. Hard to get a good sleep. We run out of gas for the stove twice. We were making meals when this happened. Gas was rectified the same day, but we had to make other arrangements for meals that day. There was only hot water in the shower. No hot water in any of the other sinks. Would have liked to no this before booking the house. The owner and manager were very diligent and kind to solving any of our problems. Especially Gyselle. Over all. A very nice well looked after house.

Very nice home in Progreso

Absolutely LOVED the outdoor patio area. We spent our mornings and evenings out there. Great to have off-street parking that is secured. This home is on a busy street. As a result, there is traffic noise during the overnights. It didn't bother us much because we are used to this at home. Giselle's family was very accommodating and friendly. We had a wonderful time!
