Welcoming family friendly atmosphere, the decor us maybe a bit 80s but the staff are wonderful and you will be well fed and watered in their bistro and bar. Good walks in the area. Nice for a romantic getaway. The breakfast rooms were traditionally elegant but the dining room lacked charm and ambience. It was almost impossible to regulate the temperature and never able to get anything other than a lukewarm shower. It needs replaced with a modern shower. The staff were excellent. Location was ok and nice by the river. Quiet as in the countryside. Bathrooms could do with a better clean. Towels worn. Bed hard. However slept ok due to quiet. Staff young and don't seem trained but what's new with that in the UK currently?! Difficult to get attention to order at breakfast. However eggs benedict and full breakfast both very good. Ok for a reasonably priced break near Melrose and Abbotsford House. We enjoyed our short stay. The room was spacious, clean and had good facilities. My only slight issue was that breakfast was a buffet.
