Stroll to the cafe, art gallery, pub, dairy, post office, RSA or bowls club. Take in the heritage walk around the village or just unwind with far reaching views in front of you. Refurbished in recent years this is a very tidy cottage. Whilst it's a good place to rest if passing through it also makes an excellent base to discover Northland's history, beaches and walks. An excellent stopover on Northland's Twin Coast Cycle Trail, Pou Herenga Tai. Previously known as ‘Beach Road Cottage’ the cottage has been renamed ‘Orowaru’ to better reflect the surrounding area and acknowledge Māori heritage. Orowaru means ‘sound of rippling water’. I can particularly recommend sitting on the front verandah watching the tide roll in and out. Deeply peaceful. And well appointed for your every need. We used the cottage as a base to explore the Hokianga and Whangape Harbours. So many marae, so many early churches, friendly locals wherever we went. Sitting on the front veranda each morning enjoying the wonderful view and a coffee started each day with a feeling of relaxed calmness. The facilities are great, well equipped kitchen, very comfortable beds and great selection of games to keep us entertained in the evenings. The wood burner is great. Shower is basic. The neighbour mowed the lawns for about an hour and a half with a really noisy mower. This is not the fault of the owner. ##### Matthew J.
