Schooner Bay Resort – Unit H19 Review: Lipstick on a Pig (but hey, we still had fun!)We made the most of our stay at Tablerock Lake, but Unit H19 at Schooner Bay Resort left a lot to be desired — and that’s putting it kindly. Safety & Comfort ConcernsDeck slats were so wide a toddler could fall through — and they were loose! We had to run to Walmart and install temporary fencing with zip ties just to feel semi-safe.Ceiling leaked just 26 hours in (after a good rain). Maintenance came quickly (shoutout to Ashley), but the fix was adding two janky window A/C units... pulled from other cabins. Bugs now have a red carpet through the window gaps.Sliding doors screech like a freight train rolling through your living room.Water pressure firehose. Great for stripping paint, not ideal for bathing children. Missing Essentials & Poor DesignNo dishwasher.No laundry.No upstairs bathroom — every trip requires a hike downstairs.Bedrooms had nowhere to put clothes (1 small cabinet in spare room).Microwave door can’t fully open — hits the wall. Hope your dinner fits sideways.Bathroom light light blaring exhaust fan. There is no “just light.”Plastic cookware only — so forget about grilling on their BBQ.No counter space, despite a huge blank wall begging for a shelf or two. Pool ProblemsSlide stairs were cracked and sharp — got fixed after 3 days.Metal pool steps wobbly and loose. Hold your breath and hope. The Good StuffOpen flo

Great Communication- but “Lipstick on a Pig” type of property

The owner, Ashley & property manager, Karen, were quick to respond, but the property itself was not that great. We stay in Kimberling City an avg of 5-6x's a summer, we decided to try this property because of the boat slip that was advertised with the property. Ashley did give us early access to the property, which we appreciated. The main level was okay (we rented the 2 bed/1 bath unit), newer floors + new kitchen & appliances. The basement however was not so great - strong moldy/musty smell (which we thought was due to all of the rain we had recently & we thought if we aired it out it would go away). After looking closer you could see evidence of past water damage along the baseboards & walls. The bedrooms & bath are in the basement. We also had a variety of bugs + spiders on the walls/corners of the basement/ceilings & beds. They gave us a can of spray to help mitigate the problem - but it didn’t help. A bug here or there is common-you’re in a wooded area + around water, the amount in this unit is ridiculous! The main floor living space was 89 degrees when we got off the lake on Saturday & the AC was not working, it was quickly recharged. Time to replace your 1980's condensing units! If you read reviews from 2011-2014 about this property not much has changed! Added some cheap paint + new flooring + new appliances but they didn’t properly redo the unit. Again, they are quick to respond, however it seems they are too cheap to fix things right the first time.
