Hanalei Colony Resort C2 is a charming, intimate retreat on the far North Shore, perfect for a relaxed and romantic vacation! This cozy condo has two bedrooms, with the option to use one as a home office or children's bedroom, a nicely stocked kitchen, and a comfortably furnished living and dining area with incredible ocean views from the oversized windows. The shaded private lanai looks directly at the water, allowing you to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Pacific. Please note that the bedrooms are separated from the main living space via sliding shoji screens; while the screens offer visual privacy, they are by no means soundproof. The amenities at Hanalei Colony Resort make this the perfect spot for a slow-paced and laidback vacation. Walk just a few steps and you're right on a warm, sandy beach away from any crowds! Or, spend a day by the pool and hot tub, lounging in the sun and grilling in the outdoor kitchen. If you need to truly unwind and pamper yourself, the Hanalei Day Spa is just across the parking lot and offers some incredible services (can you say beachside couple's massage?). You'll also find the Opakapaka grill & bar on site for some tasty seaside bites, as well as the Na Pali Art Gallery & Coffee Shop where you can peruse some beautiful art while enjoying a morning brew. Additionally, there is an on site coin-operated laundry room, so be sure to bring some quarters! (the front office can usually make change if you don't have any quarters) For those of us that like to get out and about, Hanalei Colony Resort C2 is still conveniently close to many main attractions. Take a quick 15 minute drive and you're in the heart of Hanalei town, with all its charming boutiques, restaurants, and cafes. Grab a bite to eat or a shave ice before heading to the iconic beaches of Hanalei Bay for the day. Tunnels Beach, perfect for snorkeling, is only 3 minutes away driving, or 20 minutes on foot if you prefer to walk it. Ha'ena Beach is just another 3 minutes down the road, and is an absolute hidden gem with crystal clear waters and some of the best sunsets in the world. You're also just 10 minutes away from the Limahuli Garden & Preserve, which offers an introduction into native Hawaiian culture and its ties to the natural landscape against a backdrop of dramatic mountains and the Pacific Ocean. For any basic grocery needs, as well as delicious sandwiches, acai bowls, coffee, and shave ice, head 3 minutes down the road to the Wainiha Country Market. You'll also find a lovely selection of local goodies you won't be able to resist. Please note that Hanalei Colony Resort was built in simpler times in a more remote location. The resort was designed with the untouched, natural environment as the main draw, and does not offer all the luxuries of modern resorts. There is no dishwasher and no TV in the unit (although there is very fast Wi-Fi), and it takes longer to access other parts of the island. Drive time to Princeville and Kilauea is roughly 30 minutes, to the East Side (where the airport is) is 70 minutes, and to the South Shore is over 90 minutes. We highly recommend renting a car, as third party guests are unfortunately NOT able to use the resort shuttle services. We do, however, encourage guests to take advantage of the North Shore Shuttle, which services locations such as the Wainiha Country Market, Limahuli Gardens, and Ha'ena State Park. The shuttle will pick you up right in the parking lot of Hanalei Colony Resort (super convenient!), and advance reservations are required. As with most homes on Kauai, this vacation rental is NOT air conditioned, however there are ceiling fans in each space and additional tower fans to help with air flow. Although this is a ground floor unit, you will need to be able to go up 4 stairs to access the front door. Although this home has internet, the speed and reliability cannot be guaranteed due to the remote location and the service being provided by a third-party. It is located in a beautiful part of Kauai's north shore, a short distance from my favorite beach Tunnels. The condo came stocked with everything we needed for our trip, from beach chairs, umbrella, cooking utensils, etc. and it was very spacious for me and my husband.Our ONLY note would be that you could hear the upstairs neighbors walking around and it was disturbing at times (e.g. trying to go to sleep). No problems with other tenants, but just think the downstairs is prone to noise / footsteps from the upper units.It was a wonderful stay and we would stay here again! ##### Katie E. The unit itself is dated, does not have a dish washer, but in overall good condition. Benefits are proximity to the ocean and endless beach to explore. If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place. It is a good condo to use as home base when exploring this side of the island. A few cockroaches found in the unit, although to be expected on island. Management is not responsive, and if you ask for assistance in the office on site they will not help. The location right next to the beach was very convenient. It was within a long walking distance from tunnels beach via the road and more tiring but much more scenic walk along the beach and just a short drive from Hanalei. The condo and the complex are older but they've done a good job of maintaining and renovating things as is expected to be needed this close to the beach. The railing on the porch was in the process of being replaced while we were there. One issue that needs to be taken care of is the ceiling fan/light remotes. Once we had neighbors in the condo unit above us they were turning on and off randomly at times. It's likely an easily fix of just changing the frequency/channel the remotes and units operate on but it does need to be addressed so the lights stay off or on when you want them that way. The place has lots of windows and 3 separate fans which are important to keep air flow and keep the place comfortable. The pool and hot tub are nice, and laundry is in that building (but we did have someone take our clothes out and use our washer, and management just kinda said “that stinks.”). It’s coin operated only and there’s no change machine.The condo was dated, and people tried to dress it up with some new bedding and furniture. Not all of the outlets and lights worked, and two of the fan lights would randomly come on at night, waking everyone up. The one fan was unable to be turned off at all. The management at the colony made it very clear we were “outsiders” by booking via vrbo.There is no AC and it is a bit musty in there, lots of dust on the blinds and dividers. No true privacy between rooms. I don’t think you can actually call this two bedrooms.Hanalei is really far North and after a fallen tree one night, we had to wait a few hours before we could get back. It’s also super dark, windy, single lane bridges at night. We were ok with that, but something to keep in mind.As long as you’re not expecting a posh place, it’s fine if you like it up North, and are ok with it just being a stopping area between adventures. It’s nice it’s so close to tunnels beach and you can beat the crown there.Overall, it felt safe, but it wasn’t what we were expecting based on the pics. ##### Kristi R.
