Purdy Lodge

Purdy Lodge

10/10 Excellent
"The property was handily placed adjacent to a petrol station and right next to the A1 BUT at no time was there any fuel smell or any noise from both it and the busy main road! All the staff were friendly, helpful & professional. The room, facilities, corridors & common spaces were very clean and tidy! Both dinner and breakfast were excellent and dinner well priced! The bar area was clean and tidy and well stocked with all manner of drinks! Checking in & out were extremely well managed and far superior to similar establishments in the area!"

"The Dock Hotel is a pub, a working man's pub, which has been converted into a very nice and very comfortable hotel. The staff were very helpful and really friendly. My room was excellent. Spotlessly clean and comfortable too. Highly recommended, with a real piece of North East charm."

"Couldn’t recommend The Tenpus at Charlton Hall more! We stayed in one of the lakeside lodges and had such a lovely relaxing time. We had planned to eat at the Lobster Pot in Bamburgh but lucky for us they were a chef down and couldn’t accommodate us so we ate in the Tempus restaurant which was outstanding. I didn’t catch our servers name but he was so friendly and made us very welcome. Food was delicious. Can’t wait to book again… absolutely loved everything about our visit."

"This is a new hotel. The location is opposite the castle and 5 minutes walk from the town centre. It has a private carpark with EV chargers. Room was great, new and well equipped. Staff were friendly. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel and both meals were of a good standard. Fully recommended ."

"Food was excellent. It would have been useful to have booked our dining times perhaps on booking as times were so limited on the second night we had to go to the local pub which was disappointing. Very comfy bed. Spa treatment lovely. Overall a lovely relaxing time"

"Beautiful last minute night away ..... hot tubs aren't usually our thing but it was clean, covered and secluded so had a lovely time using it. Could do with some mats or something putting down to help clean feet when you are getting in and out. But apart from that .... we had an amazing night together."

What is the best area to stay in Craster?
The best area to stay in Craster is within the village itself, particularly around the harbour and along the coastal path. This area is the heart of Craster, a small, picturesque fishing village known for its smoked kippers and proximity to Dunstanburgh Castle. The village is compact and easily walkable, with most accommodations offering direct access to the coastal paths and the small harbour where the fishing boats come and go. The Craster Arms pub and the Shoreline Café are central spots for refreshments.Couples looking for a quiet, scenic escape will find staying in Craster village ideal. The best time to visit Craster is during the shoulder seasons of spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October).During these months, you'll experience milder weather, fewer crowds, and the natural beauty of the Northumberland coast is particularly striking. Spring brings blooming wildflowers to the coastal paths, while autumn offers dramatic skies and vibrant colours. This is ideal for couples or solo travellers who enjoy outdoor activities like walking and exploring. The summer months (July and August) are also popular, offering the warmest weather and longest daylight hours, which is great for families. However, attractions and accommodations can be busier and potentially more expensive. If you're planning a trip with children and want to make the most of the beaches and outdoor spaces, summer is a good choice, but be sure to book well in advance.Winter (November to March) can be quite cold and windy, with shorter daylight hours. While the coastline can be dramatic, many smaller attractions and some eateries might have reduced hours or be closed.
