- A plane trip can be a cruisy experience if you've got all the right gear. Firstly, you'll want a few basic toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and lip balm, a fresh change of clothes and a good book. Secondly, find a spot in your hand luggage for your phone and charger, your medications and maybe a blow-up neck pillow as well. Lastly, and most importantly, remember to take your passport, travel docs and some cash.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Squeeze all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hair gel in your checked luggage. Any liquids or gels in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) will be confiscated by authorities. Pointed or sharp objects, like your beloved Swiss Army knife, and products which are flammable or explosive, such as flares, chemicals agents and fuels, are also banned.
What to wear on a flight:
- The aisles of an airplane are no place for a fashion parade. Wear layers and opt for shoes that are flat, enclosed and easy to take on and off.
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a risk on long-haul flights. It's the result of blood clots forming due to inactivity and poor circulation, so do some gentle leg and foot exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression socks or tights.
