Activity itinerary

Grand Prismatic Spring Overlook
  • 20m
  • Admission ticket included
Welcome to our walk up to the phenomenal Grand Prismatic Overlook! Grand Prismatic is the biggest hot spring in Yellowstone and the overlook is an absolute must-see! Note: This tour is 1.6 miles long and covers all the essentials of Grand Prismatic in 1-2 hours.
Firehole River
  • 20m
Keep walking over the bridge. Below us flows the Firehole River. This river flows through several of the 11 geyser basins here in Yellowstone. That means it gets a whole lot of hot water from the overflowing hot springs and geysers. That hot water is why early trappers in this area called it “Firehole.” They thought the river looked like it was on fire with all the steam that came off of it!
Fairy Falls
  • 20m
Continue walking. We’re getting pretty close to the overlook. But that’s not actually where this trail ends. If you want to continue beyond the overlook, this trail also leads to a majestic waterfall. Hiking all the way to Fairy Falls will add another four miles to your trip, and it takes about two hours to get there and back. The hike itself is moderately easy, though a lot of it is uphill.
Grand Prismatic Spring Overlook
  • 20m
We’ve made it! Welcome to Grand Prismatic! Isn’t it something? The pool itself has a diameter of 370 feet, and it’s 160 feet deep! It expels about 560 gallons of water every minute. You can probably see that boardwalk down by the rim of the pool from here. You might be thinking — “why don’t I go there? I’ll get to see this rainbow up close!”
