On one of days after we arrived, I bought drinks at the 3rd floor bar and then got comfortable on one of the sofas on the exterior patio. There was activity with many people and there appeared to be an event in progress. After a few minutes a women walked up to us with a pained expression on her face and said that “Regular” guests were not currently allowed on the main patio. She said that we could go and sit in the section of patio on the north side. We obliged. Moments after we relocated, we were told we were in the way there as well. We ended up walking up to the vacant 4th floor lounge and finished our drinks there. We probably would have bought a couple more drinks, but the 2 bars on this floor were not open.
I am not sure if the women that spoke to us were from the hotel or people from the company who appeared to have rented the patio of the hotel for the afternoon. They were gracious and I didn’t make any comments, but afterwards I reflected on how this was a big issue for me. The public space of the hotel was designed with a beautiful bar, restaurant and patio space that I was very excited spend time in and possibly enjoy entertainment, have dinner, buy drinks and chill. It was disappointing we were denied access because we were just “Regular” guests. It was one of the main reasons I spent a lot of money and booked a room at the hotel.
This will probably be the BIG negative issue that will prevent me from staying at the hotel again.
