Before our stay, we were a little concerned with the amount of negative reviews this place had. To our surprise, this place exceeded all expectations. I’m not sure where all the negativity had come from. The ones leaving negative reviews must not have stayed at the same place we did. It was great for the entire family, and we plan to come back!

This is the 7th all-inclusive resort we’ve stayed at and we would rate this one in the middle. Not the worst. Not the best. The positives were the rooms were very clean and spacious, we had very delicious dinners each night with the specialty restaurants and it wasn’t hard to make reservations, and check in was quick and easy and they even let us in the room early. The staff was kind and friendly and worked very hard! Especially the man who worked the taco stand by the pool. We did feel very safe and comfortable on the property. The negatives would be the pools each day were very cloudy and you could see things floating all around. They also were very warm. (We did go in June though) I ended up with the stomach bug while there. I’ve never been sick at a resort before. My husband had an upset stomach but was overall fine. The design of the hotel is a bit odd so be prepared for a decent walk from your room to the closest elevator. The air condition in the lobby and buffet leaked and little water droplets would drop from the vents. There were many big groups there while we were there which is expected with the convention center, but these groups seemed to take over spaces (buffet, elevators) at certain times in the day. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but do not feel like we will return.

Check-in process was long and the lobby is always crowded. Not too many staff speaks english that well. Reception stuffs seems to be busy all the time and not friendly to approach. On my first day visiting out of the resort the bellman came to me and asked me to check out first before asking me if I'm leaving the resort or just going out. He just came up to me and said check out like a police officer. I told him I'm just going out and he just walked out without saying another word. Another incident repeated twice at Velu was after taking seat and started eating no one comes to us to take our drink order. I had to get up and find someone to ask for drinks.That being said there were really nice stuff all over the resort it just few don't like what they are doing there. Another thing is the layout of the resort was confusing. Its divided into multiple section and lot of walking if you are inside but not much if you outside. Hallways are kind of zig zag and not easy to go from one end of the hotel to another. 2 outside pools are also not close by and you have to walk on beach to get to the other pool. Anyway I wouldn't go back there. I was there for 5 nights.
